Late Rally Not Enough For Wildcat Women, Final Four Games At Home

SIOUX FALLS, SD – After posting a season-low in scoring Friday night, the Wayne State women’s basketball team went back to work closing out their regular season road weekend on Saturday.

From the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, WSC visited USF.

Sioux Falls held off a late rally from WSC, 62-58 to pick up the weekend sweep. USF improved to 7-2 on the season (7-2 NSIC) while the ‘Cats fell to 5-7 (4-6 NSIC).

Sioux Falls took the early 16-11 lead in the opening quarter while WSC won the second quarter, 12-11. USF led 27-23 at the break. Sioux Falls would extend their lead thanks to a 23-15 third quarter while the ‘Cats started to comeback in the fourth with a 20-12 advantage. Final again favored USF, 62-58.

The Wildcat women were led by senior Erin Norling with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks (5-14 FG/1-5 3PT/6-6 FT). Senior Halley Busse (3-13 FG/1-5 3PT/4-4 FT) and junior Kylie Hammer (three assists) (3-7 FG/2-4 3PT/3-4 FT) both finished with 11 points.

Other scoring came from junior Autumn Mlinar with eight points, sophomore Josey Ryan with four points, sophomore Kassidy Pingel with three points as sophomores Lauren Zacharias and Ashley Gustavson each tallied two points.

WSC shot 17-55 (30.9%) from the field, 4-20 (20%) from behind the arc and 20-22 (90.9%) from the foul line.

USF leaders were Anna Brecht and Lauren Sanders each with 11 points while Dallie Hoskinson poured in 10 points and 10 boards.

Sioux Falls finished 23-63 (36.5%) from the floor, 5-21 (23.8%) from the three-point line and 11-13 (84.6%) at the charity stripe.

The Wayne State women will host their final two regular season weekends with Southwest Minnesota State and Augustana in town on February 12 – 13 as well as February 19 – 20.
