Late Rally Falls Short For Wayne Ponies, Broncos Drop First Round Tourney Game

WAYNE – Both the Wayne Pony and Bronco tournament teams were in action Friday night to open the Wayne Youth Baseball Tournament.

From the Summer Sports Complex, several more youth baseball games are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 19 – 20.

In the Pony (14U) division, Friday’s lone result saw Wayne’s late rally fall short against Pender, 6-5. The Wayne Pony Tournament Team is now 6-5 on the season.

Pender jumped ahead early with a 4-1 first before adding two more runs in the second to lead 6-1. Wayne scored a run in the third and finished with three runs in the top of the fourth but lost 6-5.

Will Leseberg singled, drove in three runs and scored while Jace Jorgensen doubled and drove in a run. Drew Reinhardt singled twice and scored, Gavin Anderson doubled, Kaden Keller and Mason Heikes both singled, Calvin Ankeny scored twice as Parker Patefield scored.

Alex Rodriguez (79 pitches) suffered the loss in four innings allowing six runs (four earned) off three hits while striking out seven batters and walking two.

The Wayne Pony Tournament team will play one more game at 3 p.m. against Dakota Valley 14U on Saturday. The 3rd and 4th best teams will play at 9 a.m. on Sunday followed by the top two teams at noon. All Pony games will be played on the northwest field.

Pony 14U Bracket 6-16-21

The Bronco (12U) division opened with a first-round bracket game Friday night which favored Pender over Wayne, 9-2. Pender will next face Bennington at 1 p.m. on the southeast field on Saturday.

Wayne will be off until Sunday morning at 9 a.m. in the loser’s bracket on the southwest field.

The winner-take-all championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Other Saturday first round games on the SE field will feature Dakota Valley vs. O’Neill at 9 a.m. and LeMars (IA) vs. Battle Creek at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Broncos Bracket 6-16-21

All Didget (10U) pool play games will open on Saturday, June 19. Wayne will open at 9 a.m. vs Pender, play Vermillion at 3 p.m. and close the night against West Point at 7 p.m.

Pool A 1st place will play Pool B 1st place at 9 a.m. on Sunday on the northeast field followed by A #2 vs. B #2 at 11 a.m.

Didget Bracket 6-16-21

Back in Tri County League play on Sunday, June 20 will showcase both Wayne Pony teams. Wayne White will host Wakefield while Wayne Blue will visit West Point. Both Wayne teams are 5-3 in league play.
