Late Rally Falls Short For Blue Devil Baseball

HASTINGS – As district pairings were announced Thursday by the NSAA, the Wayne High baseball team still have a few regular season games remaining on the schedule which included a Thursday night road outing.

From Hastings, WHS visited Adams Central.

A six-run fourth-inning capped off a 10-run stretch which allowed the Adams Central baseball team to win 11-5. WHS fell to 10-7 while AC improved to 8-6.

Adams Central went on a run early with single runs in the first and second innings, followed by two runs in the third and six more in the fourth to lead 10-0. WHS produced four runs in the top of the fifth to cut into the deficit. Adams Central scored one more run in the sixth as did WHS in the seventh which favored the host AC to win 11-5.

Brooks Kneifl singled, tripled and drove in a run while James Dorcey singled, drove in two runs and scored for Wayne. Reid Korth singled and tripled, Kaleb Moormeier scored twice as Max Miller and Toby Braun both produced a run scored.

Moormeier (61 pitches) suffered the loss in three innings allowing six runs (four earned) off eight hits while striking out one batter. Jaxon Mrsny (44 pitches) worked three innings allowing five runs (one earned) off four hits while walking two batters.

The Wayne High baseball team has two games remaining on their regular season schedule. WHS will host Platte Valley (Yutan) on Saturday, May 1 at 11 a.m. for the JV game followed by varsity around 1 p.m. before closing out at Arlington on Monday, May 3 at 5 p.m. for varsity competition.

WHS also earned the #3 seed in the single elimination B-1 District baseball tournament hosted by Hastings from Duncan Field. The Blue Devils will open postseason play with #6 Douglas County West at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 6. The winner will face either #2 Plattsmouth or #7 Auburn who play at 2:30 p.m. on May 6. The other half of the bracket will feature #4 Concordia/Brownell Talbot/Omaha Christian Academy vs. #5 Fort Calhoun at noon on May 6 with the winner to face the host #1 Hastings at 2:30 p.m. on May 7.
