WAYNE – After having their home opener in March rescheduled, the Wayne High baseball team was in action over the weekend.
From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, the Blue Devils welcomed in Fort Calhoun on Saturday.
Wayne High scored two runs late in the game to manufacture a 2-0 victory and win their third straight improving to 6-4 while the Pioneers fell to 1-9.
Following three straight scoreless innings, the Blue Devils put a run on the board in the home half of the fourth and then again in the fifth inning. WHS held on for the 2-0 victory and outhit Fort Calhoun, 4-1 as the Pioneers committed three errors.
Devin Anderson and Wyatt Heikes both singled and scored for Wayne. Aiden Liston and Toby Braun added singles while James Dorcey produced a RBI.
Brooks Kneifl (89 pitches) worked the complete game victory in seven innings allowing one hit while striking out 12 batters and walking three.
The Wayne High baseball team will next host Thurston-Cuming County on Tuesday, April 12 at 4:30 p.m. which will also mark as parents night for Wayne High baseball. WHS won 14-1 earlier this season at the TC Thunder on March 24 in Pender.
