NORFOLK – The Wayne Post 43 Junior American Legion baseball team closed out their regular season in a back and forth battle with the Norfolk Post 16 Juniors Tuesday.
From Veterans Memorial Park, the Wayne Juniors opened with a 2-1 lead in the first inning. Norfolk then tacked on a pair of runs in the third and another run in the fourth to lead 4-2. Wayne tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth as Norfolk answered with two runs in the home half of the fifth. After Wayne scored three runs in the sixth to lead 7-6, Norfolk would tack on two more runs in the home half to hold on for the 8-7 win. Norfolk improves to 7-15 on the season as Wayne fell to 15-3.

Jacob Kneifl and Reid Korth both singled twice and drove in a run as Blake Bartos singled twice and drove in two runs for Wayne. Gunnar Jorgensen singled and doubled as Hagan Miller and Josh Lutt both singled.
Brooks Kneifl suffered the loss in an inning allowing two runs off of one hit while walking one batter. Victor Kniesche started the opening two innings allowing one run off of one hit while walking one batter; Tyrus Eischeid worked an inning allowing two runs off of one hit while striking out one batter and hitting two as Drew Buck pitched two innings allowing three runs off of four hits while striking out two batters.
Eli Alvarado paced Norfolk at the plate with a single, double and RBI as Colby Mrsny singled and drove in two runs.
Landon Vaughan picked up the win in an inning and a third allowing three runs off of three hits while striking out one batter and hitting one. Brody Konz started the opening four and two-thirds allowing four runs off of seven hits while striking out, walking and hitting three batters each. Jared Ertzner accounted for the save in an inning striking out one batter.
Wayne Post 43 will next compete in the Class B Area 5 Junior American Legion Baseball Tournament hosted by Wahoo. Wayne earned the #1 seed and will get a bye into Saturday, July 7 at 3 p.m. awaiting the winner of either #4 Lincoln Lutheran or #5 O’Neill.
