GENOA – Following a Monday night home victory, the Wayne High baseball team began a series of road outings Tuesday evening.
From the Genoa City Park in Genoa, the Blue Devils visit Twin River during a weeknight Class B outing.
A pair of five-run innings helped propel Wayne High to their seventh straight win and defeated Twin River, 14-1. The Blue Devils are now 10-4 while Twin River fell to 1-11, dropping their seventh consecutive game.
After neither team scored in the opening inning, Wayne High began by bringing in a run during the second; outscoring Twin River, 5-1 in the third and posting a five-run fourth to lead 11-1. The Blue Devils then poured in another three runs during the fifth and won by run-rule, 14-1. WHS outhit Twin River, 10-5 as Twin River committed four errors.
Brooks Kneifl recorded a solo homerun; singled, doubled and scored three times; Brandon Bartos finished with a three-run homerun and four total RBI; Wyatt Heikes doubled, drove in two runs and scored as Gavin Redden singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored to lead Wayne High at the plate.
Devin Anderson; Toby Braun and Kaleb Moormeier all singled, drove in a run and scored; Aiden Liston accounted for a RBI; James Dorcey and Calvin Starzl both scored twice as Jacob Anderson scored.
Aiden Liston (63 pitches) picked up the win in four innings allowing an earned run off three hits while striking out three batters and walking two. Gavin Redden (18 pitches) closed out the final inning allowing two hits while striking out one batter.
The Wayne High baseball team will next visit Class A Omaha South on Thursday, April 21. WHS will also participate in the Seward Invite on Saturday, April 23 before hosting Class A Norfolk on Monday, April 25.
