Junior High Boys Post Four Wins Monday

WAYNE – Gymnasiums at the Wayne Jr/Sr High and elementary schools saw seventh and eighth grade boys basketball players and their fans take over for a pair of games.

Monday night saw Wayne Junior High host Columbus Lakeview’s ‘B’ & ‘A’ teams.

In the double header for seventh graders, Wayne’s reserve team won 28-21 while the ‘A’ Blue Devils also won 35-18.

Parker Kesting was the team leader in the first game with eight points as Drue Davis added seven points. Other scoring came from Sam Junck (five), Jase Dean (four), Laythyn Hanish (two) and Keegan Rubendall (two).

Caiden Backer (15) and Devin Anderson (12) tallied double figure scoring in the second game. Dean added five points and Cade Wiese tallied three points.

During the eighth grade games, Wayne’s ‘B’ team won 30-20 as the ‘A’ game saw Wayne use an 18-point third quarter to win 38-32.

Leading the Blue Devil eighth graders in the opening contest was Calvin Starzl with 12 points while Lepiro Kantai added nine points. Other scoring saw Drew Fertig score four points, Tristin Claussen (three) and Hunter Schultz (two).

‘A’ team leader was Alex Phelps with 11 points, followed by Brooks Kneifl with nine points and Carter Junck poured in eight points. Bradyn McCorkindale and Daniel Judd both scored three points as Andrew Jones and Sedjro Agoumba (two).

Wayne Junior High boys will be on the road during the next two outings before closing out the season with four consecutive home contests involving a pair of tournaments. The Blue Devils will visit Hartington Cedar Catholic Saturday, January 19 at 10 a.m. and play at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Thursday, January 24 at 5 p.m. for junior high basketball.
