Blue Devil Junior High Boys Split At Columbus Lakeview

WAYNE – The Wayne junior high boys basketball teams began their season late last week and recently played their first road games of the year Monday night.

From Columbus Lakeview, the seventh and eighth grade boys took on the Vikings for a pair of games.

In the seventh-grade games, Wayne won the first contest 33-11 and during the ‘A’ game, Columbus Lakeview won 55-19.

Alex Rodriguez paced Wayne in scoring during both games with 10 points (first) and 11 points (second).

Other first game scoring came from Romel Collins & Jake Barner (6 pts each), Jameson Meyer (5 points), and TJ Ibrahaim & Brayden Woehler (2 pts each). Second game scorers came from Collins (3 pts), Woehler & Eli Elliot (2 pts each) and Jake Barner added 1 point.

 

During the eighth-grade contests, Wayne won 19-16 in the first game before falling to Columbus Lakeview 44-36 in the second.

Sam Junck led Wayne in scoring during the first game with eight points. Mason Ley chipped in 5 points while Jesus Zavala, Lathyn Hanish, and Jefferson Brizuela each scored 2 points.

Caiden Backer posted a team-high 14 points during the second game (12 in second half). Devin Anderson (8 points), Drue Davis (6), Jamari Williams (6) and Ryan Karsky (2) rounded out the final scoring.

 

Both teams began their season last Thursday hosting Battle Creek while having their Saturday games cancelled at Pierce due to weather.

The Blue Devil seventh graders won 30-22 as the eighth-grade team won 44-40 over Battle Creek last week.

The Wayne junior high boys will next host Hartington Cedar Catholic on Saturday, January 25 starting at 10 a.m.
