WAYNE – As Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball teams close out their regular season next weekend, the first of three central region rankings were announced Wednesday.
Joining the NSIC in the 39-team NCAA Division II Central Region are Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA) and Great American Conference (GAC) teams.
Nebraska-Kearney (MIAA) leads the first ranking as one of two teams left in DII volleyball who are undefeated with their 23-0 in-region record and 24-0 DII record. NSIC teams who follow are Minnesota Duluth (17-2/20-3), Concordia-St. Paul (15-3/19-4), Northern State (20-3/20-3) and St. Cloud State (14-4/19-4).
MIAA teams then take up sixth through eighth being Washburn (18-2/22-2), Central Missouri (14-5/18-7) and Northwest Missouri State (16-6/18-6).
Wayne State College (15-5/19-5) and Winona State (11-5/18-5) close out the top 10.
The 2019 NSIC Volleyball championships will feature the top eight teams who will play a single elimination format from Friday November 22 – Sunday, November 24. All three rounds of the tournament will take place at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The top eight teams in the region will advance to the NCAA region tournament Thursday, December 5 – Saturday, December 7. Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the MIAA, GAC and NSIC postseason tournaments with the remaining five spots awarded on an at-large basis.
The NCAA Volleyball selection show will be streamed online on Sunday, November 25 at 6:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
The championship quarterfinals, semifinals and final match will take place Thursday-Saturday, December 12-14, at the Auraria Event Center in Denver, hosted by Metropolitan State University of Denver.
