Hot Three-Point Shooting For Ponca Carries The Indians Into State Final

LINCOLN – Another year in the postseason for #1 Ponca and it’s back-to-back state final appearances for the Indians after getting past #5 Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur Friday late afternoon.

From the Bob Devaney Sports Center, Ponca took on BRLD in Class C2 action.

In the opening quarter, Ponca jumped out front hitting six three-pointers leading 22-13 after the first. Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur only hit 7-8 from the foul line for all their scoring in the second quarter, but Ponca was held to eight points to extend their lead at 30-20 into the locker room. The Indians then held off the Wolverines with a 12-8 third quarter and 8-5 fourth. Final found Ponca picking up their 14th straight win with a 50-33 victory to improve to 29-1 on the season while dropping BRLD to 25-3.

Ponca was led in scoring by sophomore Carter Kingsbury who hit four three-point baskets in the opening quarter and finished with 18 points. Senior Max Masin tallied another 12 points followed by 10 points from fellow senior Logan Kingsbury. Ponca finished 8-12 from the foul line.

Freshman Lucas Vogt paced Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons Decatur on the court with nine points. Senior Trenton Gatewood followed with eight points while sophomore Jaxon Johnson recorded another seven points. BRLD finished 16-24 from the foul line.
