Hot Shooting For Pender Boys Build First Half Lead, Pendragons Win First Home Game On Season

PENDER – Monday night marked a boys varsity showdown between two northeast Nebraska programs separated by 30 miles.

From the Pender Public Schools gym, the Pendragons played host to the Allen Eagles.

Pender started off hot from the field hitting a pair of three’s to build a 20-7 first quarter lead. The Pendragons then added to their lead with an 18-12 second quarter. At the half, Pender led 38-19. Both teams tallied nine points in the third while the Pendragons also won the fourth quarter scoring (18-17) to win 65-45. Pender snapped a two-game losing streak to now sit 2-3 as Allen fell to 1-2.

Sam Mailloux tallied a team-high 26 points for Pender with Jaydon Jump adding 13 points. Jaxon Maise scored all eight of his points in the opening quarter. Other scoring came from Chris Rutar with six points, five from Nathan Breitbarth, two points each from Austin Roth, Korbyn Nelson and Gabe Perez as Caleb Trimble hit a foul shot.

Pender finished 2-10 from the foul line.

For Allen, Nate Oswald came off the bench to score 12 points as starter Brogan Jones tallied 10 points. Steven Sullivan, Kobe Kumm and Josh Grone both poured in four points as Lukas Oswald, Noah Carr, Steven Cooks and Kyle Smith tallied two points. Reed Hingst, Brock Floyd and Santiago Tinajero-Rodriquez each hit a foul shot.

Allen shot 6-16 from the foul line.

Allen will next visit Cedar Bluffs on Tuesday, December 11 while Pender will take to the road on Saturday, December 15 at Stanton.

 

Area girls Monday final: Hartington Cedar Catholic girls defeat Norfolk Catholic. 47-31. The Trojans are now 2-2 as the Knights fell to 1-4. HCC is off until the Wayne Holiday Tourney where they’ll matchup with West Point-Beemer on Thursday, December 27 at 9:30 a.m. Norfolk Catholic will next host Lutheran High Northeast on Thursday, December 13.
