WAYNE – A five-game homestand began Thursday evening for the Wayne State College women’s basketball team leading up to a Friday night doubleheader with the men’s team.
From Rice Auditorium, WSC hosted Chadron State.
Wayne State College extended their non-conference home win streak to 48 and defeated Chadron State, 87-50. The Wildcats improved to 2-0 while Chadron State fell to 0-3.
Wayne State College took control early in the game following a 23-8 first quarter advantage and 17-10 in the second. WSC led 40-18 at the break. Coming out of the locker room, Wayne State extended their lead thanks to a 31-15 third before Chadron State won the fourth quarter scoring, 17-16.
Four Wildcats hit double figures led by Kylie Hammer with 16 points and five rebounds (5-8 FG/2-2 3PT/4-7 FT); Lauren Zacharias added 12 points and four assists (5-11 FG/1-4 3PT/1-1 FT); Kassidy Pingel poured in 11 points and seven rebounds (4-6 FG/1-2 3PT/2-4 FT) and Maya Fitzpatrick tacked on 10 points and five boards (3-8 FG/1-4 3PT/3-6 FT).
Other scoring came from Logan Hughes (seven boards) and Ashley Gustavson with seven points each; six point scorers were Delaney Clark, Abby Kopecky (team-high three assists) and Aaliyah McMillan as two point buckets came from Brigid Boyle (one block), Annie Guentzel and Tate Norblade.
The Wildcats shot 29-57 (50.9%) from the field, 11-26 (42.3%) from behind the arc and 18-29 (62.1%) from the foul line.
Chadron State College was led in scoring by Ashayla Powers with eight points and four players each with seven points.
Chadron State finished 18-54 (33.3%) from the floor, 2-10 (20%) from the three-point line and 12-26 (46.2%) at the charity stripe.

The Wayne State College women will next host Black Hill State at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 19 followed by the WSC men hosting Simpson at 7:30 p.m. from Rice Auditorium.
