High Scoring Girls Final Favors BRLD, Wakefield Boys Hold Off Late Wolverine Rally

BANCROFT – With a home game on the schedule later this week for the Wakefield girls and boys basketball teams, the Trojans took to the road Tuesday night.

From Bancroft-Rosalie Community Schools in Bancroft, Wakefield visited Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur to open the week.

The BRLD girls won 79-62 while the Wakefield boys defeated BRLD, 56-47.

The Wolverines improved to 10-3 as Wakefield fell to 9-5 while the Wakefield boys won their fifth straight to now sit 12-2 and BRLD dropped to 3-9.

During the girls game, BRLD won the high scoring first quarter, 26-18 before extending their lead with a 20-17 second. Score at the break saw BRLD ahead 46-35. Wakefield then chipped away at the deficit with a 16-13 third quarter but the Wolverines closed out the game outscoring the Trojans, 20-11. Final favored BRLD. 79-62.

Wakefield was led in scoring by Jordan Metzler with 21 points, followed by Aishah Valenzuela with 16 points and Destiny Helzer poured in 14 points. Alex Arenas sored nine points and MaKenna Decker tallied two points.

Double figure BRLD leaders were Jordan Snyder with 18 points, Addison James poured in 16 points, Alyssa Buchholz finished with 14 points as Isabella Bonneau scored 12 points.

In the boys game, Wakefield led 12-8 after the first and then outscored BRLD, 9-6 in the second quarter. The Trojans led 21-14 at the break. BRLD came out firing in the third quarter with an 18-15 scoring clip before Wakefield closed out the fourth, 20-15. Final favored Wakefield, 56-47.

Wakefield was led in scoring by Cade Johnson with 20 points, Hunter Schultz poured in 14 points as Eliseo Sarmiento finished with 13 points. Logan Bokemper also scored nine points.

BRLD leaders were Mason Dolezal with 16 points as Elliott Nottlemann followed with 14 points.

The Wakefield girls and boys will next host Tri County Northeast on Friday, January 21 while the BLRD basketball teams will also compete on Friday when they host Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.
