High School Basketball Season Tips Off Tonight

PENDER – High school basketball teams across the state will be in action starting tonight into the weekend as the last NSAA basketball event was the boys state championships held in mid-March.

As only household family members are allowed to watch the games in person, Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and waynedailynews.com has a trio of northeast Nebraska games that can be heard live over the next three nights.

First, the Wakefield Trojans will open their season at the Pender Pendragons this evening starting at 4 p.m. with the boys JV game. The girls JV game will follow around 5:15 p.m. before the varsity girls game will begin around 6:15 p.m. and followed by the boys. Last year, then Wakefield-Allen suffered a 64-52 home loss to Pender while the Trojans boys won 61-25 in the season opener.

 

Moving into Friday evening the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears will visit Crofton starting at 4 p.m. with JV games. The Crofton girls defeated the Bears 63-42 early last season while the defending Class D1 state champion LCC boys won 64-37 over the Warriors.

 

Entering the weekend on Saturday, the Wayne High girls and boys will compete in their home opener against Ponca after visiting Battle Creek Friday night. The varsity girls game will be held in the Jr/Sr high school gym at 5:15 p.m. while the JV boys will play at the elementary at the same time followed by the JV girls at 7 p.m. as the varsity boys will play in the Jr/Sr high gym also at 7 p.m. Join Sports Director, Aaron Scheffler on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and waynedailynews.com with pregame coverage set for around 5 p.m.

The Indians swept Wayne last year with the Ponca girls winning 55-32 and the boys picking up a 58-40 victory early in the season.
