Hickman Crowned Class B Junior Legion State Champs, Class C Final Set

MCCOOK/PLYMOUTH – A champion was crowned during the Class B Junior American Legion baseball state tournament with the Class C bracket moving into their final today.

From Merv Breland Field in McCook, Hickman dominated the Class B Junior Legion state tourney and were crowned champions Wednesday evening.

Following a runner-up finish to Wayne Post 43 last summer, Hickman won their fourth title in the past 10 years and for the second time in a matter of five days defeated Central City 15-0.

Hickman also placed second in 2016 while winning back-to-back titles in 2014/2015 and in 2011 with Norris. Hickman outscored their opponents 54-1 with their closest game being in the first round on Saturday during a 1-0 walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh over Roncalli.

From Cody Park in Plymouth, Class C Junior Legion scores saw PWG (Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley) remain undefeated with a 9-6 win thanks to a four-run seventh inning eliminating Louisville-Weeping Water while Syracuse topped Tekamah-Herman 9-4 during an elimination game last night.

One-loss Syracuse will match up with undefeated Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley this evening at 5 p.m. with PWG just needing one win and Syracuse needing two. PWG topped Syracuse 8-0 on Tuesday.
