HARTINGTON – A handful of northeast Nebraska high school volleyball teams took part in a late season weekend tournament.
From Hartington-Newcastle high school, the Wildcats hosted teams of Emerson-Hubbard, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Wausa and Winside on Saturday.
Hartington-Newcastle posted a 2-1 mark thanks to wins over Emerson-Hubbard (25-13, 25-5) and Wausa (21-25, 25-13, 25-21) following a loss to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (20-25, 9-25). HNS is now 15-7 on the season and will next compete in the Winside triangular with Emerson-Hubbard on Tuesday, October 15.
During the opening match loss to LCC, Kayden Jueden recorded team-highs in kills (six) and digs (nine) followed by Abbe Morten with four kills. Autumn Lammers added 11 set assists and five digs to go along with two service aces as Keanna Korth tallied three digs and two aces for Hartington-Newcastle.
In the sweep against Emerson-Hubbard, Kayden Jueden posted 11 kills, six digs and six aces followed by Korth with four kills, eight digs and nine aces for HNS. Lammers finished with 15 set assists as Alivia Morten and Keeley Weipen both tacked on three aces.
From the sweep over Wausa, Kayden Jueden picked up a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs to go along with four aces while Korth added six kills and nine digs for HNS. Lammers recorded 23 set assist and two aces, Weipen tallied five digs, two kills and two aces as Makenna Clarkson finished with four digs, three kills and three aces.
The Winside Wildcats won both their matches by sweeping Wausa (25-12, 25-13) and winning in three over LCC (20-25, 25-23, 25-16). Winside is now 18-4 and will host Emerson-Hubbard and HNS Tuesday. With the split, the Bears are now 11-10, Wausa dropped to 4-14 with two losses Saturday and the Pirates fell to 0-20 in their one match.
In the sweep against Wausa, Kati Topp led the team in kills with six followed by Brooklyn Behmer with five kills, eight set assist and six digs as Hope Cummins added five kills and a team-high four solo blocks for Winside. Andi Bargstadt tacked on six digs and three kills, McKenna Russel led the team in set assists with 11 to go along with six digs as Jackie Escalante finished with six digs and a team-high three service aces.
During the three-set victory over LCC, Bargstadt recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs followed by Cummins with 11 kills and a team-high five service aces for Winside. Behmer finished with eight kills, 14 set assists and five digs as Russell came away with 23 set assists and four digs. Topp posted six kills and six digs as Escalante added 11 digs.
