Hartington/Newcastle Girls Win Big On Road, Wakefield Boys Hit Foul Shots During Home Win

WAKEFIELD– A five-game homestand began Tuesday night for the Wakefield/Allen girls and Wakefield boys basketball teams.

From the Wakefield Community Schools gymnasium, the Trojans entertained the Hartington/Newcastle Wildcats.

In the girls contest, Hartington/Newcastle used a six-point advantage entering the second before outscoring the Trojans 19-13. At the half, HNS led 34-22. Hartington/Newcastle would pull away in the second half with an 11-5 third quarter and 16-7 fourth. Final found the Wildcats winning 61-34 to now sit 1-1 as Wakefield/Allen fell to 0-2.

Abbe Morten stole the show for Hartington/Newcastle with 16 points. Other double figure scorers came from the 11 points by Elle Stencel and 10 points each from Belle Harms and Willa Scoville. More scoring saw Delayne Sudbeck score four points, three from Evvie Krie and two by Grace Jansen.

The Wildcats finished 4-12 from the foul stripe

Wakefield/Allen was led by the nine points from Jordyn Carr followed by Carly Dickens with eight points. Courtney Bokemper tallied seven points, Maddie Mogus poured in four points, three from Rachel Borg, Haley Stapleton scored two points and Anna Lundahl added a point.

The Trojans closed out 10-18 from the foul line.

From the boys game, Wakefield took a seven-point lead into the second quarter where the Trojans only outscored HNS 20-19. Entering the locker room, Wakefield led 37-29. Hartington/Newcastle pulled within two points, 43-41 going into the fourth before the Trojans outscored the Wildcats 14-6 to win 57-47. Wakefield is now 3-0 while Hartington/Newcastle fell to 0-2.

Justin Erb tallied a team-high 19 points in three quarters of play for Wakefield. Solomon Peitz followed with nine points, Blake Brown added seven points and Blake Heiman tacked on six points. Other scoring came from Esgar Godinez and Gabe Peitz with five points each as Dylon Harder and Nick Arenas both tallied three points.

The Trojans shot 20-33 from the foul line.

Hartington/Newcastle was led by bench play from Matthew Meisenheimer scoring 12 points. Shaye Morten added 10 points, Lincoln McPhillips scored nine points and Sam Harms picked up another six points. Other scoring saw Kobe Heitman add four points and two points each from Ethan Lammers, Dylan Dendinger and Carson Sudbeck.

The Wildcats finished 3-6 at the charity stripe.

The Wakefield/Allen girls and Wakefield boys will next host Randolph on Tuesday, December 11. Hartington-Newcastle will next visit Pierce on Saturday, December 8.
