Hartington-Newcastle, Cedar Catholic Volleyball Post Home Sweeps

HARTINGTON – Both the Hartington/Newcastle and Hartington Cedar Catholic volleyball teams were on their home court Tuesday night.

The HNS Wildcats hosted Bloomfield while Cedar Catholic entertained Pierce.

In the Class D1 vs. D2 showdown, Hartington-Newcastle swept Bloomfield (25-18, 25-23, 25-11) to improve to 6-6.

Kayden Jueden recorded 12 kills and eight digs to lead HNS followed by Abbe Morten with eight kills and eight digs to go along with two service aces. Alivia Morten added 13 set assists and five digs while Brianna Hopping finished with 12 set assists, four digs, two kills and two aces. Keanna Korth tacked on six digs and three solo blocks.

 

From the Class C1 matchup, HCC won in straight sets over Pierce (25-21, 25-18, 25-17) to now sit 11-6 on the season.

Kenlee Goeden paced Cedar Catholic at the net with 10 kills followed by Abby Hochstein with nine kills and 12 digs. Brynn Wortmann finished with eight kills and eight digs while Laney Kathol tallied seven kills and had three solo blocks. Megan Heimes tacked on a team-high 16 digs as Aiden Wortmann also recorded 37 set assists.

The Hartington-Newcastle volleyball team will next host Osmond Thursday while HCC will welcome in O’Neill and Wayne during a home triangular also Thursday.
