Hartington-Newcastle, Hartington Cedar Catholic Run Away With District Titles

PONCA – Several area Class C teams competed in the C4 Track & Field Meet from the Ponca Sports Complex where the two high schools from Hartington tied in the girls division and were decided by a point in the boys division.

From the girls division both Hartington Cedar Catholic and Hartington-Newcastle tied for first with 122 points as Emerson-Hubbard/Pender came in third with 107 points. Ponca finished fourth with 80 points, BRLD (fifth – 44.5), Wakefield (sixth – 22), Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (seventh – 19) and Homer (eighth – 10.5).

Class C4 Girls District

In the boys division, Hartington-Newcastle was listed as the District Champion with 128 points, just edging Hartington Cedar Catholic who took runner-up with 127 points as Wakefield finished third with 97 points. Ponca placed fourth scoring 71 points, BRLD (fifth – 62), Homer (sixth – 23), Emerson-Hubbard/Pender (seventh – 12), LCC (eighth – six) and one point was scored by Winnebago.

Class C4 Boys District

Wakefield was led by Israel Gardea who won the shot put (50’ 3 ½”), Solomon Peitz placed second in the triple jump (42’ 10 ½”) as Esgar Godinez finished second in both the 100-meter dash (11.39) and 200-meter dash (23.34).

Wakefield will also have two relays competing at state.

The 4X400-meter relay team of Jackson Heitz, Ben Chase, Justin Erb and Godinez came in first (3:37.91) as the 4X800-meter relay team of Gabe Peitz, Solomon Peitz, Jackson Heitz and Samuel Heitz also were crowned District Champs (8:32.39).

The 2018 NSAA State Track & Field Championships from Omaha Burke Stadium are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 18-19. Class C teams will join Class A in the afternoon starting at 3 p.m.
