Hartington Cedar Catholic Volleyball On Eight-Set Winning Streak

BATTLE CREEK – A couple Class C2 volleyball teams joined with a Class D2 opponent during a triangular in northeast Nebraska.

Battle Creek entertained Hartington Cedar Catholic and Humphrey St. Francis Thursday evening.

The Trojans of Hartington Cedar Catholic earned another pair of triangular sweeps with wins over Humphrey St. Francis (25-8, 25-11) and Battle Creek (25-14, 25-15) to improve to 4-0 on the season and winners of eight straight sets.

From the win over St. Francis, the team posted 16 service aces led by Brianna Miller’s six and another four from Aiden Wortmann. Jada Cattau and Abby Hochstein posted a team-high six kills each as Maddie Wieseler tallied a team-high 14 set assists. Megan Heimes paced HCC with 12 digs.

During the Battle Creek sweep, Wieseler recorded seven kills while adding eight assists as Kenlee Goeden posted six kills. Wortmann tacked on 10 set assists as Heimes added 10 more digs.

Battle Creek then swept Humphrey St. Francis, 25-14 and 25-15 to improve to 2-1 on the season after the split. St. Francis falls to 1-2 on the year.

Hartington Cedar Catholic will next compete in the eight-team Columbus Scotus Invite on Saturday, September 1. HCC will open with Norfolk Catholic at 9 a.m. followed by Columbus Scotus vs. Columbus Lakeview at 10 a.m. both in Memorial Hall. Games from the Activity Center will feature Stanton vs. Twin River at 9 a.m. and Bishop Neumann vs. Pierce at 10 a.m.
