Hanson, Logelin Earn All-NSIC Recognition, Logelin Joined By Fiene On All-Defensive Team

WAYNE – A trio of Wayne State College baseball players were recognized with postseason Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honors.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, seniors Andrew Hanson and Alex Logelin represent Wayne State on the 2022 All-NSIC Baseball Team.

Hanson earned All-NSIC First Team honors while Logelin was a Second Team selection for the second straight season. Logelin and senior catcher Conner Fiene were also named to the NSIC All-Defensive Team.

Hanson, a 6-1, 185 pound senior shortstop from Burnsville, Minnesota (Burnsville HS), led the Wildcats in numerous offensive categories this season to earn All-NSIC honors for the third time in his career (1st Team in 2018 and 2nd Team in 2019). He led Wayne State with a .336 batting average and had five homers with a team-high 37 RBI. He led the NSIC in stolen bases (37) and triples (6) and was second on the Wildcat roster in hits (50) and runs scored (39). His 37 stolen bases this season were the second-most in a single season by a Wildcat player and he was fifth in NCAA Division II in stolen bases per game (.93) and sixth in total stolen bases (37).

Hanson also closed out his senior season with one final hit being hit #200 in his career with a two-run homerun this past Saturday. Hanson is now the 10th player in school history to collect 200 career hits.

Logelin, a 6-0, 190 pound senior outfielder from Cologne, Minnesota (Waconia HS), earned All-NSIC Second Team honors for the third time in the last four seasons after hitting .304 for the Wildcats this past year. He was tied for third on the team with 12 multi-hit games and ranked sixth in the NSIC with 15 doubles and tied for eighth with 15 stolen bases. Logelin had six homers and 25 RBI and was second on the team in walks with 21 while finishing his Wayne State career as the all-time leader in career doubles with 67.

Two Wildcats were also named to the NSIC All-Defensive Team as senior catcher Conner Fiene and Logelin were named to the nine-player squad.

Conner Fiene, a 6-1, 205 pound senior catcher from McKinney, Texas (Highland CC), threw out an NSIC leading 27 base stealers this season while making just one error behind the plate for a .996 fielding percentage that tied for seventh in the NSIC. Fiene gunned down 27 of 63 base stealers this season, throwing out 42.8 percent of would-be base stealers. He started 37 games behind the plate this season and hit .220 with four home runs and 18 RBI and helped anchor a Wildcat defense that set a new school record with a .972 fielding percentage that was second-best in the NSIC.

Logelin had just one error this season with a .989 fielding percentage. He had 89 putouts and five assists in 95 total chances fielding the ball this season while helping the Wildcat defense rank second in the NSIC with a new school record .972 fielding percentage.

The Wayne State College baseball team finished the 2022 season at 19-26 overall and ninth place in the NSIC with a 13-18 league record.
