KEARNEY/NORTH PLATTE – Classes C and D boys golf team took part in their State Championships near central and western Nebraska.
In Class C, from the Kearney Country Club, Grand Island Central Catholic used a 10-stroke advantage over Elmwood-Murdock (637-647) to be crowned champions. Creighton placed third with a 648, Kimball took fourth with a 655 and Hartington Cedar Catholic fell back to fifth with a 660. Battle Creek also remained seventh with a 670 in the two-days.
Individually, Chase Largen of Creighton was the top finisher with a 145 two-day score (+3). He was followed by fellow area athlete of Matthew Schaefer from Hartington Cedar Catholic shooting a 146 (+4).
Other top 26 area results came from Brady Brockhaus (Creighton) tied for 11th with a 158, Jarret Cerny (Norfolk Catholic) tied for 14th with a 159; Riley Kuehn (HCC) placed 21st with a 163; Ty Heimes (Battle Creek) tied for 22nd with a 164 and Rockney Peck (Wisner-Pilger) tied for 26th with a 166.
Battle Creek: Gavin Tegelar (T-30th – 167); Caydon McCracken (36th – 169); Devon Beckman (T-38th – 172) and Luke Stueve (T-50th – 175).
Creighton: Bryce Zimmerer (T-45th – 174); Braxton Brockhaus (T-56th – 176) and Connor Hammer (T-59th – 177).
Hartington Cedar Catholic: Ted Bengston (T-43rd – 173); Quinn Paulsen (T-61st – 178) and Nolan Klug (T-81st – 194).
Pierce: Dysen Roth (T-38th – 172).
In Class D, from Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte, West Holt bettered their score by one-stroke to finish with a two-day score of 639 to be crowned champions. Franklin followed in second with a 652, Medicine Valley placed third with a 714, Boyd County came in fourth with a 717 and Heartland rounded out the top five teams with a 718.
The lone area team was Osmond as they placed seventh with a 752.
Franklin’s Ryan Weiss won on the second playoff hole with a par over Mason Hale of West Holt; both shooting a 151. Andrew Lauby of Loomis was one-stroke off the leaderboard with a 152 as another Franklin golfer in Trenton Colby finished fourth with a 154.
Area individual golfers were led by Osmond’s Alexander Kumm who tied for 10th with a 164 while Carter Schnoor of Randolph placed 43rd with a 183.
Other Osmond golfers: Brenden Hille (57th – 196); Tristan Maertins and Dylan Schmit (T-65th – 204 as well as Drew Krienert (71st – 207).
