Girls State Basketball Quarterfinal Round Begins Wednesday, Ponca vs. GACC Game To Be Aired On KTCH

LINCOLN – After all of Class A and half of Class B opened the 2021 NSAA Girls State Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, the remainder of the quarterfinal games will be played on Wednesday.

A handful of northeast Nebraska teams will begin their championship run on Wednesday, March 3. They include Winnebago in Class C1; BRLD, Crofton, GACC and Ponca in Class C2; Hartington Cedar Catholic in Class D1 and Wynot in Class D2.

The Ponca girls basketball team is back at state for the third consecutive year. The Indians (19-4) will face #3 GACC (23-3), who after qualifying for state 21 consecutive years have missed out the past two seasons, at 6:30 p.m. from Lincoln Southeast High School. Pregame coverage on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and waynedailynews.com is set for 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

The winner will face the winner of either #2 Wood River (24-2) or #7 BRLD (20-4) who play at 4 p.m. The other half of the bracket will feature #1 Crofton (23-3) vs. #8 Centennial (23-2) at 11 a.m. and #4 Bridgeport (23-3) vs. #5 Lourdes Central Catholic (20-4) at 1:30 p.m.

The Class C2 semifinal games will be held at the Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday at 6:15/8:30 p.m.; consolation will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. Lincoln Northeast HS and the championship game on Saturday at 8:45 p.m. at the PBA.

 

Following the largest upset in the girls district final round, #16 Winnebago defeated #1 Malcolm 51-49 and earned the #8 seed in the Class C1 quarterfinal round. The Indians (15-10) will face #1 Grand Island Central Catholic (21-2) at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Pinnacle Bank Arena. The winner will face the winner of either #4 Broken Bow (23-1) or #5 (21-3) North Bend who play at 4 p.m.

The other half of the bracket will feature #2 Lincoln Lutheran (19-2) vs. #7 Sidney (18-6) at 6:15 p.m. and #3 Hastings St. Cecilia (22-2) vs. #6 Syracuse (21-3) at 8:30 p.m.

Class C1 semifinals will be on Friday at 9/11:15 a.m. from the PBA; consolation game on Saturday at 9 a.m. from Lincoln Northeast HS and championship game on Saturday at 10:45 a.m.

 

In Class D1, #3 Hartington Cedar Catholic (18-7) will face #6 South Platte (20-2) at 6:30 p.m. with the winner to face the winner of #2 Weeping Water (21-5) or #7 BDS (18-7) who play at 4 p.m. from Lincoln Southwest High School.

The other half of the bracket will feature #1 Pleasanton (25-1) vs. #8 Elmwood-Murdock (12-11) at 11 a.m. and #4 Archbishop Bergan (15-9) vs. #5 Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (19-4) at 1:30 p.m.

Class D1 semifinals will be at 1:30/4 p.m. on Thursday from the PBA; consolation game on Friday at 11:30 a.m. from Lincoln Northeast and championship game on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the PBA.

 

In Class D2, #6 Wynot (19-6) will open with #3 Chambers/Wheeler Central (23-1) at 6:30 p.m. with the winner to face the winner of either #2 Falls City Sacred Heart (24-2) vs. #7 Maywood-Hayes Center (24-2) at 4 p.m. from Lincoln North Star.

The other half of the bracket will feature #1 Humphrey St. Francis (22-0) vs. #8 Sterling (15-7) at 11 a.m. and #4 Mullen (24-2) vs. #5 Exeter-Milligan (23-4) at 1:30 p.m.

Class D2 semifinals will be on Thursday at 9/11:15 a.m. from the PBA; consolation game on Friday at 9 a.m. from Lincoln Northeast HS and championships game at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday from the PBA.
