Four Top 10 Finishes Lead Wayne High Girls Golf To Invitational Victory

STANTON – For the second time this week, members of the Wayne High girls golf program competed on the course.

From Elkhorn Acres Golf Course in Stanton, WHS joined 10 other teams during the Stanton Invite on Thursday.

Wayne High shot a 408 to win the Stanton Invite.

Head WHS girls golf coach Josh Johnson said, “It was a little hot and a little windy today but the girls battled through it.”

Top WHS girls golfers were Joslyn Johnson finishing runner-up with a 95 followed closely by Riley Haschke with a third place 98. Charlie Sievers (107) and Carli Canham (108) took seventh and eighth place respectively while Lindsay Niemann rounded out varsity scoring with a 119.

Following Wayne’s 408 was Laurel-Concord-Coleridge four strokes back with a 412, Hartington Cedar Catholic shot a 455 to place third, Norfolk finished fourth with a 464 as South Sioux City rounded out the top five teams (478).

The top 18-hole individual medalist was Sarah Karnes from Laurel-Concord-Coleridge with a 91. Delaney Hall (102) and Maddy Graham (104) finished fourth and fifth respectively while other varsity LCC golfers were Skylar Swanson (115) and Holly Patefield (118).

The Wayne High girls golf team will be off until Monday, September 12 during the Battle Creek Invite.
