Four-Run Sixth Inning Add Insurance For DeBoer’s 12 Strikeout Performance

WAYNE – Defense and timely hitting allowed Wayne High to take the season series against Thurston-Cuming County Tuesday evening.

In the first meeting on March 22 the two teams went nine innings before Wayne High won 5-3. The second time around from Hank Overin Field the Blue Devils won in shutout fashion.

Offensively the Blue Devils brought in single runs during the third and fourth innings. Following a scoreless fifth inning, WHS plated four runs in the sixth and held on for the 6-0 win. Wayne High improved to 4-3 on the season while the TC Thunder fell to 1-4.

Freshman Reid Korth recorded a single, double and two RBI to pace WHS at the plate. Senior Zane Jackson added a triple, sophomore Hagan Miller tacked on a two-RBI single as sophomore Trevor DeBoer singled. Sophomore Josh Lutt singled, drove in a run and scored once while senior Brennan O’Reilly, junior Kaleb Anderson, freshman Victor Kniesche, sophomore Blake Bartos and freshman Jacob Kneifl each scored a run.

DeBoer picked up the complete game win (2-1) in seven innings allowing five hits while striking out 12 batters, walking two and hitting one batter.

For the TC Thunder, sophomore Devin Hegge recorded two singles while senior Layne Hesse, senior Brady Oliver and senior Kenyan Lovejoy each singled.

Hesse suffered the loss in five and a third innings allowing four runs off of five hits while walking two batters and hitting one. Lovejoy worked a third of an inning allowing two runs off of one hit while walking three batters. Oliver faced the final batter in the bottom of the sixth.

Wayne High will next host #9 Platteview on Thursday, April 12 at 4:30 p.m. Thurston-Cuming County will also play on Thursday visiting Crete.
