Four-Run Innings Not Enough For Wayne Post 43 Seniors, Drop First Game On Season

ARLINGTON – A scheduled Wayne Post 43 American Legion double header was shortened to a Seniors only game due to numbers for Arlington Wednesday evening.

The Wayne Post 43 Seniors were coming off a late Tuesday night win over West Point, 10-6 before visiting Arlington which marked Wayne’s fourth road game on the year.

From the Seniors only contest, Arlington was the first to score with a run in the second inning, two more in the third and one run in the fourth to lead 4-0. Wayne tied the game back up with a four-run fifth inning before Arlington answered back in the sixth with three runs to lead 7-4. Again, Wayne posted a four-run inning in the seventh, but Arlington brought in the winning run in the seventh scoring twice to win 9-8. The Wayne Post 43 Seniors fell to 4-1 on the season.

Zane Jackson led the Wayne Seniors at the plate with two singles, a double and three RBI. Payten Gamble followed with a single, double and RBI. Tyler Lutt, Justin Dean and Hagan Miller all recorded a single and RBI. Brennen O’Reilly and Tucker Nichols added singles while Jacob Kneifl accounted for a sacrifice-fly RBI.

Gamble suffered the loss in an inning allowing two runs off of four hits while striking out three batters. Nichols was pulled due to pitch limit after working five and two-thirds allowing seven runs (six earned) off of nine hits while striking out seven batters and walking four.

The Wayne Post 43 Seniors will get Thursday off before hosting back-to-back games at Hank Overin Field. Wayne will entertain Wakefield Post 81 for a Seniors only contest at 7 p.m. on Friday before competing in their first non-league game on Saturday with Lincoln Parkview Christian coming to town at 4 p.m.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors will host Lincoln Parkview at 2 p.m. also on Saturday.
