VALLEY – The Wayne Post 43 Junior American Legion baseball team began postseason play Friday evening.
From Valley, #2 Wayne took on #7 Arlington in the Class B Area 3 Tournament.
Wayne struck first with a single run in the second as Arlington answered with a run in the fifth. Post 43 then recorded a five-run sixth inning to win 6-1. The Wayne Juniors are now 22-4 on the season and have won 11-straight. Wayne also defeated Arlington 15-0 in Wayne on June 19 and during the RBL title game of 6-5 in eight innings in Wakefield on July 7.
Gunnar Jorgensen singled twice, doubled and drove in a run while Max Miller singled and drove in two runs for Wayne. Toby Braun and Brooks Kneifl both singled and drove in a run as Brock Hopkins and Jacob Kneifl each singled.
Blake Bartos picked up the win in three innings of relief allowing an earned run off three hits while walking two batters. Jacob Kneifl started the opening four innings allowing two hits while striking out seven batters and walking two.

The game prior to Wayne saw #6 Omaha Roncalli upset #3 Blair 4-3. Wayne will next face Omaha Roncalli at 5 p.m. Saturday.

West Point and Schuyler will play the first elimination game at noon Saturday followed by Blair vs. Arlington at 2:30 p.m. The other winner’s bracket games will feature Bennington vs. Waterloo-Valley at 8 p.m.
Class C Area 2 American Legion scores from Friday in Scribner: #1 Pender defeated #6 Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells (7-5); #2 Hooper-Scribner won over #5 North Bend/Morse Bluff (13-5) and the fourth-seeded Wakefield Post 81 Juniors dropped their first round game to #3 Tekamah-Herman (6-5) after giving up four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
North Bend/Morse Bluff will open the day against Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells at 1 p.m. in an elimination game while (0-1) Wakefield Post 81 will take on 1-0 Pender at 4 p.m. and Hooper-Scribner will close out the night against Tekamah-Herman at 7 p.m.
