First Set Goes Extras, Winside Holds On For Road Sweep

PLAINVIEW – A Class D2 team looking to start off strong began their regular season with a road contest Thursday night.

With a handful of home triangulars on the schedule this season for Winside, the Wildcats opened their road schedule at Plainview.

The Wildcats held on for the 29-27 first set victory and went onto sweep the Pirates 25-17 and 25-15 in the final two sets. Winside is now 1-0 while Plainview fell to 0-1.

Hope Cummins led the kill-attack with 11 followed by Andi Bargstadt recording eight kills and team-highs in digs with nine and four aces. McKenna Russel posted a team-high 16 set assists followed by Brooklyn Behmer with 10. In the block category, Kati Topp (six kills) and Cummins both tallied two while Bargstadt and Behmer added one each. Jackie Escalante also tacked on six digs.

Winside will next host the Winside Quad Saturday, August 31 as Plainview will face Winside again during the St. Mary’s triangular on Tuesday, September 3.
