Final Home Games For #13 Wayne State Volleyball Friday And Saturday, Regional Rankings Released

WAYNE – As the Wayne State College volleyball team prepares for their final regular season weekend on the home court, the second set of region rankings were announced earlier this week.

WSC remained #13 in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll and also stayed ninth in the Central Region rankings.

Wayne State College is 23-5 overall (13-5 NSIC) after recently winning their fifth consecutive match by sweeping #6 Concordia-St. Paul Tuesday. Regional rankings are based on games through Sunday, November 10 (WSC is 18-5 in-region games). WSC has won 15 straight sets.

Nebraska-Kearney (MIAA) remains the top team with their undefeated record followed by three NSIC teams of Minnesota Duluth, CSP and Northern State. Washburn (MIAA) moved up a spot to fifth trading with #6 St. Cloud State (NSIC) while the next four remained the same being Central Missouri and Northwest Missouri State (both MIAA) and NSIC teams of Wayne State College and Winona State University.

The ‘Cats close out their regular season hosting MSU Moorhead on Friday, November 15 at 6 p.m. before welcoming in #7 Northern State Saturday at 4 p.m.

WSC is currently tied for fourth with St. Cloud State (‘Cats swept this season). The 2019 NSIC Volleyball Tournament will play all three rounds from the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The eight-team single elimination tourney will be played Friday, November 22 – Sunday, November 24.

The top three teams are a game apart with Minnesota Duluth leading the way (16-2 NSIC), followed by Northern State (15-3) and Concordia-St. Paul (14-4). Winona State and Augustana are tied at sixth (12-6), Upper Iowa is eighth (11-7) and Southwest Minnesota State is ninth (10-8).

Central Region teams are made up from the NSIC, the Mid-America Athletic Association and Great American Conference. Each conference tourney champion will earn an automatic berth while the next five will be based on an at-large basis. The NCAA region tournament will be on December 5 – 7 with the NCAA volleyball selection show being streamed on NCAA.com on Sunday, November 25 at 6:30 p.m.

The championship quarterfinals, semifinals and final match will take place Thursday-Saturday, December 12-14, at the Auraria Event Center in Denver, hosted by Metropolitan State University of Denver.
