WAYNE – As the Wayne State College women’s golf program continues to prepare for the 2020 fall season, the fifth member of their recruiting class was recently announced.

According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics office, Sophie Jansa from Sioux Falls, South Dakota has signed a national letter of intent to attend Wayne State College and play women’s golf for the Wildcats in the 2020-21 academic year. Jansa will join Tricia Hemann of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Abbey Kurmel from Okemos, Michigan, Paige Peters of Bancroft and Jazmine Taylor from Omaha.

Jansa is a four-year starter at O’Gorman High School in Sioux Falls entering her senior season. She has helped the Knights win three straight Class AA state titles in South Dakota and has placed in the top 10 individually at state the last three seasons. Jansa was eighth last spring with a 158 (81-77), ninth in 2018 and sixth in the 2017 state tournament.

She is a four-time Class AA All-State selection and has also earned All-Metro Conference honors for four straight seasons. Jansa has an 18-hole scoring average of 80 and also excels in the classroom receiving Academic All-State honors all four years.
