Even Hitting, Late Scoring For Ralston Ends The Wayne High Season

OMAHA – Postseason baseball opened Saturday afternoon for the Wayne High baseball team.

From Omaha Home for Boys, first round action took place between #2 Ralston and #3 Wayne.

It was a defensive battle through the opening four innings. Then WHS got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Ralston answered with a four-run sixth inning to hold on for the 4-2 win. The Rams improved to 11-11-1 and advanced to the B2 District Final as Wayne ended their season at 12-6.

Senior Brennan O’Reilly produced a two-run homer scoring sophomore Blake Bartos who also singled. Sophomore Josh Lutt recorded two singles as freshman Jacob Kneifl added a single.

Sophomore Trevor DeBoer suffered the loss in five and a third innings allowing four runs off of five hits while striking out six batters and walking one. Kneifl worked the final two-thirds allowing one hit.

Senior LaLo Espinoza put Ralston out front with a two RBI single while adding a double.

Senior Parker Clapp picked up the win in six innings allowing two runs off of six hits while striking out one batter. Senior Nate Sailors recorded the save in the final inning striking out one batter.

#1 Concordia/Brownell Talbot/Omaha Christian Academy followed by defeating #4 GACC/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer, 4-1. Concordia will next face Ralston at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 7.
