Wayne Junior High Boys Basketball Results

WAYNE – The Wayne Junior High boys basketball teams closed out their season with home competition last week into the weekend.

On Thursday, February 7, Wayne hosted Norfolk Catholic before entertaining teams for a season-ending tournament Saturday.

In the double header with Norfolk Catholic, the Wayne seventh graders lost 37-28 while the eighth-graders won 34-29.

Seventh grade scores came from Caiden Backer with 10 points while Devin Anderson and Drue Davis both poured in six points. Caden Wiese, Sam Junck and Kaden Hunt all added two points.

The Blue Devil eighth graders were led by Sedjro Agoumba with 10 points, Alex Phelps with nine points and Andrew Jones scored seven points. Carter Junck tallied five points and four from Daniel Judd.

The Wayne B team also beat Norfolk Catholic, 12-2. Calvin Starzl paced the team with four points, three by Drew Fertig as Easton Blecke and Jace Piper scored two points each. Hunter Schultz tacked on a point.

 

From the four-team tournament Saturday, the Wayne seventh graders opened with a 37-27 loss to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.

Devin Anderson paced the team with seven points while by Drue Davis and Kaleb Moormeier scored six points each. Caden Wiese (three), Caiden Backer (two), Ryan Karsky (two) and Kaden Hunt (one) rounded out the scoring.

In the third place match, Wayne hit some clutch free throws to defeat Howells-Dodge 43-39. The Wayne seventh grade boys basketball team closed out their season at 6-5.

Caden Wiese was the team leader with 14 points as Devin Anderson and Caiden Backer poured in 10 points and nine points respectively. Other scoring came from Davis (five), Hunt (two) and Sam Junck (two).

In the eighth grade game, Wayne defeated LCC 45-22 in the opening round.

Sedjro Agoumba and Daniel Judd both recorded 10 points for Wayne, Andrew Jones followed with eight points and Brooks Kneifl added five points. Carter Junck and Trace Jackson (four each) as well as Alex Phelps and Drew Fertig (two each) closed out the scoring.

In the championship game with Hartington Cedar Catholic, Wayne jumped out front and held on for the 53-35 victory. The Wayne eighth grade boys basketball team capped off a 10-1 season with a championship.

Double figure scorers were led by Judd who went off for 16 points, Agoumba with 12 points and Phelps 11 points. Other totals went to Jones (six), Kneifl (five) and Trace Jackson (two).

A note from coach Josh Johnson: “Also congrats to the 8th grade boys team on a great season and junior high career. They finished their season 10-1 and junior high career 19-3.  They also won all four tournaments they participated in.”
