Easton, NFCA Academic Honors Awarded To Eight Wildcat Softball Players & Team

WAYNE – As the Wayne State College softball team closed out their fall season Sunday, eight players received Easton/NFCA Academic Honors in early October.

WSC hosted Central Community College of Columbus to close out the homecoming weekend following the announcement on Wednesday, October 2 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association office in Louisville, Kentucky.

To be eligible for the team academic award, an institution must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher while individuals must maintain a 3.50 grade point average to receive academic honors.

Wayne State was one of five Northern Sun Conference schools and 87 in NCAA Division II to earn the team academic award.

The list includes Kortney Buresh, Ashley Hernandez, Abbie Hix, Maddie Moser, Michaela Smith, Riley Vanderveen, Morgan Vasa and Kim Vidlak.

The Wildcats finished the 2019 season with records of 16-32 overall and 6-24 in the NSIC.

WSC will open their 2020 schedule with trips to Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, and Florida in late February/early March before hosting their first conference game with Augustana on Tuesday, March 24.
