Early Season Volleyball Classic To Highlight 12 Northeast Nebraska Teams

WISNER/PENDER – A total of 12 northeast Nebraska high school volleyball programs will be put on display over a two-day tournament hosted by Wisner-Pilger and Pender.

The 2021 Northeast Nebraska (NEN) Jean Groth Volleyball Classic will be held on Thursday, September 2 and Saturday, September 4.

Qualifying round triangulars will take place on Thursday evening.

From Pender 1: Pender will face North Bend Central at 5:30 p.m.; followed by North Bend vs. Guardian Angels Central Catholic at 6:30 p.m. and Pender vs. GACC at 7:30 p.m.

Pender is 1-0 after winning in four sets over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on August 31; GACC is 2-0 after winning in four sets over both Aquinas Catholic (8/26) and Norfolk Catholic (8/31) as North Bend Central is 2-0 after winning a home triangular in straight sets over Madison and Shelby/Rising City on August 31.

From Pender 2: West Point-Beemer vs. Archbishop Bergan at 5:30 p.m.; Bergan vs. Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons Decatur at 6:30 p.m. and BRLD vs. West Point-Beemer at 7:30 p.m.

BRLD is 1-1 after winning in four sets over Tekamah-Herman (8/26) and falling in five sets to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family on August 31; West Point-Beemer is 2-1 after splitting a home triangular on August 26 falling in straight sets to Battle Creek and winning in three sets over LCC while also winning in four sets over Boone Central on August 31 as Archbishop Bergan is 1-1 after winning in four sets over Omaha Roncalli Catholic (8/26) but being swept by Lincoln Christian (8/31).

Wisner 1: Wisner-Pilger vs. Tekamah-Herman at 5:30 p.m.; Wayne vs. Tekamah-Herman at 6:30 p.m. and Wisner-Pilger vs. Wayne at 7:30 p.m.

Wayne High is 0-1 after dropping a five-set match at Ponca on August 26; Wisner-Pilger is 1-0 after sweeping Schuyler (8/26) and Tekamah-Herman is 0-1 after falling in four sets to BRLD (8/26).

Wisner 2: Wakefield vs. Lutheran High Northeast at 5:30 p.m.; LHNE vs. Oakland-Craig at 6:30 p.m. and Wakefield vs. Oakland-Craig at 7:30 p.m.

Wakefield is 1-0 after sweeping Plainview on August 26; Lutheran High Northeast is 2-0 after sweeping both Elgin Public/Pope John (8/26) and Hartington Cedar Catholic (8/31) while Oakland-Craig is 0-1 after dropping a four-set match to Howells-Dodge on August 26.

2021 NEN Volleyball Classic

Pairings will be announced Friday morning as games in Wisner last from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and games in Pender from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. start times. Medals will be awarded to the first and second place team’s players at the gold, silver and bronze tourney.

Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for students as no conference or school passes will be allowed.
