WAYNE – Following a 12-win season and returning all but two graduating seniors from last year’s team, the Wayne High baseball team is ready to start their season.
But due to field conditions and rain in the forecast, the Blue Devils had to postpone their first week of the season and reschedule another home game.
WHS was scheduled to open their season at home last Saturday hosting Bennington and Mount Michael Benedictine. Wayne was then supposed to host Arlington Monday and visit Fort Calhoun Tuesday before hosting Thurston-Cuming County Thursday. All of those games have been postponed with no new date set.
The Blue Devils will look to compete on the road after having to change location from Hank Overin Field in Wayne to Sam Crawford Field in Wahoo. WHS is scheduled to officially open their season on Friday, March 22 against Wahoo/Bishop Neumann/Lincoln Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. Wahoo will also face Guardian Angels Central Catholic/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer around 6:30 p.m. It’s just one game for Wayne.
Other upcoming games for Wayne High include road contests at Douglas County West on Tuesday, March 26 and at Crete on Thursday, March 28. WHS will play their first home game on Saturday, March 30 against Norfolk.
