KEARNEY – Following a pair of exhibition contests for the Wayne State College women’s soccer team, the season began Friday late afternoon.
From Foster Field, WSC took on Harding during the Nebraska-Kearney Fall Classic.
Neither team could net a goal in regulation as it took until a penalty kick from Harding in the fifth minute of overtime to win 1-0. In the defensive battle, each team had four shots during the match.
Megan Phillips and Rylie Wehner each had shots on goal while Payton Haliburton and Melaini Jamison were credited with a shot attempt.
Goalkeeper Rachel Grisham recorded one save while allowing the lone goal.
The Wayne State College women’s soccer team is back in action on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. facing the host Nebraska-Kearney.
