District Feel-Like Weekend Approaches For Wayne Seniors

SPRINGFIELD – As the Wayne Post 43 Senior American Legion baseball team looks to continue their run against northeast Nebraska opponents, the team will compete in their first of two tournaments during the month of July.

The Springfield District Tune-up is scheduled for Friday, July 17 – Sunday, July 19. Games will be played at Buffalo Park in Springfield.

Wayne is 11-0 entering their 7 p.m. Wednesday night road game at Hooper-Scribner and will match up with Waverly at 8 p.m. Friday; Mt. Michael at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the host Springfield at 10:30 a.m. Sunday and close out the weekend against Ashland at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Other Friday games will feature Springfield vs. Ashland at 12:30 p.m.; Wahoo vs. Ashland at 3 p.m. and Wahoo vs. Mt. Michael at 5:30 p.m. Saturday games open at 8 a.m. with Wahoo taking on Springfield; Mt. Michael will face Waverly at 1 p.m. and Ashland will take on Waverly at 3:30 p.m. Other Sunday outings include Wahoo vs. Waverly at 3:30 p.m. and Springfield vs. Mt. Michael at 6 p.m.

Each game will follow the National and Nebraska Legion Baseball rules including courtesy runner and re-entry rules. Run-rule games will be decided by eight after five innings for all games with a two-hour time limit unless tied. The designated hitter may only be used for the pitcher and the home team will be decided by a coin flip unless playing Springfield.

Admission will be charged and Buffalo Park has terrace seating but it is recommended that fans bring their own lawn chairs.

The other tournament the Wayne Post 43 Seniors will participate in is the Bennington Tournament on Thursday, July 30 – Friday, July 31 and Sunday, August 2.
