Dirt Devil Thursday Results

WAYNE/NORFOLK/PENDER – A trio of Dirt Devil summer softball teams were in action Thursday evening in three different locations.

The Dirt Devil 10s hosted Pender, Dirt Devil 14s played at the Norfolk Golden Girls 1 and the Dirt Devil 16/18s traveled to Pender.

Following a road split earlier this week at Pender, the Dirt Devil 10s split with Pender again but this time at the Summer Sports Complex. Wayne won the opening game 15-3 before Pender held on for the second win, 11-10. The Dirt Devil 10s are now 2-2 on the season.

The Dirt Devil 10s posted three, five-run innings only giving up two runs in the top of the second and one in the third.

Courtney Roeber singled and scored three times while Alexis Legler singled and scored twice. Anna Dutcher scored twice as Kinnley McGuire, Lilly Johnson, Addison Frank, Elizabeth Hix, Lainey Meyer, Gracelynn Daniels, Reagan Heithold and Alivia Kesting all scored.

McGuire picked up the win in three innings allowing three earned runs off two hits while striking out eight batters and walking two.

Pender took a 5-3 lead after the first inning before the Dirt Devil 10s answered with a 5-2 second to lead 8-7. Wayne then added to their lead with two more runs in the third but Pender got the last at bat and scored four times to win 11-10 in game two.

Legler singled, drove in a run and scored while Roeber and Kamden Dobbins both scored twice. Dutcher, Lilly Johnson, Kaylei McIntosh, Gracelynn Daniels and Alivia Kesting all scored.

Kinnley McGuire suffered the loss in two innings allowing seven earned runs off seven hits while striking out six batters and walking two. Legler started the game allowing five earned runs and walking six batters.

After having a doubleheader canceled due to rain on June 18, a pair of 14 & Under softball teams got together Thursday evening in Norfolk. The Dirt Devil 14s visited the Golden Girls as the Norfolk squad secured wins of 11-2 and 12-2. Wayne fell to 0-4 on the season.

The Dirt Devil 14s held an early 1-0 lead after the first before the Golden Girls scored single runs in the second and third to lead 2-1. Wayne then knotted the game back up at two a piece before Norfolk poured in nine runs in the fourth to win 11-2.

Taytem Ellis singled and drove in the two runs while Kierah Haase singled and scored. Caitlyn Mostek singled and Samantha Gubbels scored.

Sammi Gubbels suffered the loss in five innings allowing 11 runs (three earned) off seven hits while striking out three batters and walking one.

The Golden Girls then used a four-run opening inning in game two before outscoring the Dirt Devil 14s 7-2 in the second. Norfolk added one more run in the fourth to win 12-2.

Mostek singled and drove in a run as Jersi Jensen and Rylin Hall both scored.

Sammi Gubbels suffered the loss in an inning allowing four runs (three earned) off four hits while walking one batter. Hall worked two innings allowing eight runs (seven earned) off nine hits.

During the 16/18s contest, Pender shutout Wayne 7-0 before also winning the second game, 5-2. The Devil 16/18s fell to 3-3 on the season.

Pender scored two runs in the opening inning followed by one more run in the second to lead game one, 3-0. Pender then added two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to win 7-0.

Brooklyn Kruse and Hope O’Reilly posted the lone singles on the game.

Rachel Hobbs suffered the loss in six innings allowing seven runs (three earned) off six hits while striking out two batters and walking two.

Pender again took a lead in the second game thanks to a two-run second before the Dirt Devils tied the game in the home half of the third. Pender then scored two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to win 5-2.

Taytum Sweetland singled and drove in the two runs while Kruse added a double. Logan Miller and Hobbs both singled as Nikki Fertig and Hailey Schroeder both scored.

Hobbs suffered the loss in six innings allowing five runs (three earned) off eight hits while striking out four batters and walking one.

All four Dirt Devil softball teams will be back in action on Tuesday, June 30. The 10s will visit the Norfolk Golden Girls at 6:30/8 p.m. (Liberty Bell Park), 12s host Highway 91 at 6:30/8 p.m., 14s visit Ponca at 6/8 p.m. and the Dirt Devil 16/18s travel to Pierce at 5/7 p.m.
