Dirt Devil Softball Teams Post 6-0 Record Tuesday

WAYNE/WEST POINT – A trio of Dirt Devil summer softball teams were in action for Tuesday night doubleheaders.

The 12s and 16/18s hosted Ponca while the 14s traveled to West Point all sweeping their opponents.

In the 12U doubleheader, Wayne swept Ponca 9-7 and 12-4 to now improve to 3-3 on the season.

Wayne scored a run in the opening inning of the first game before Ponca knotted the game up at five all through two innings. Wayne then outscored Ponca 4-2 in the third to win 9-7.

Jordyn Gamble recorded two singles and two runs scored while Reagan McGuire singled and scored three runs for the 12s. Mallory Redden scored twice as Caylie Hopkins and Carli Canham also scored.

McGuire picked up the win in three innings allowing seven earned runs off one hit while striking out five batters and walking six.

From the nightcap, Ponca took the early lead with a run in the first and again leading by a run through four innings of 3-1. Wayne took control in the fifth outscoring Ponca 9-1 and tacking on another run in the home half of the sixth to win 12-4.

Aubrey Russell doubled, tripled, drove in a run and scored while Gamble doubled and scored for Wayne. Justice Olson singled, drove in a run and scored three times; Lily Gubbels (RBI), Makenna Mattison and McGuire all singled and scored; Canham scored twice and added a RBI; Mallory Redden scored twice as Hopkins accounted for a RBI.

McGuire picked up the win in six innings allowing four runs off three hits while striking out 16 batters and walking five.

During the 14s road outings, Wayne swept West Point 9-6 and 7-2 to now sit 3-7 on the season.

West Point led early in the opening game 2-0 before Wayne poured in three runs in the second, both teams scored a run in the third and Wayne outscored West Point 4-2 in the fifth. Both teams also scored a run in the sixth as the Dirt Devil 14s held on for the 9-6 victory.

Taytem Ellis singled twice, doubled, drove in a run and scored; Sammi Gubbels doubled and drove in three runs; Kierah Haase singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored while Caitlyn Mostek doubled and scored for Wayne. Samantha Gubbels singled, drove in a run and scored; Emily Jaeger and Jersi Jensen both singled twice and scored; Delaney Kruse singled and scored twice; Hannah Gubbels singled and drove in a run as Rylin Hall scored.

Sammi Gubbels picked up the win in six innings allowing six earned runs off six hits while striking out six batters and walking four.

In the final game, West Point led 2-0 entering the home half of the third when the Dirt Devil 14s scored five runs before adding two more runs in the fifth to win 7-2.

Mostek singled, tripled and drove in two runs while Jensen singled, drove in three runs and scored for Wayne. Ellis and Kruse both singled twice and scored twice; Hannah Gubbels singled and scored; Haase singled as Sammi Gubbels scored.

Hall picked up the win in five innings allowing two runs (one earned) off four hits while striking out five batters.

From the 16/18s home games, Wayne won a pair of close games of 6-1 and 3-2 improving to 8-4.

Wayne scored twice in the first inning during game one and outscored Ponca 3-1 in the fourth to win 5-1.

Hailey Schroeder singled, drove in two runs and scored while Kendall Dorey singled twice for Wayne. Rachel Hobbs and Logan Miller both singled as Taytum Sweetland, Brooklyn Kruse, Hope O’Reilly and Mikaela McManigal all scored.

Dorey picked up the win in four innings allowing one run off one hit while striking out 10 batters and walking one. Hobbs worked the final inning allowing one hit while striking out one batter.

Ponca scored a run in the opening inning of the night cap before seeing Wayne tally three runs in the second. Ponca pulled back within a run in the sixth but fell 3-2.

McManigal singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored while Miller doubled and drove in a run for Wayne. Dorey singled twice; Hobbs and O’Reilly both singled and scored; as Jamie Janke and Kruse both singled.

Hobbs picked up the win in six innings allowing two earned runs off six hits while striking out one batter and walking two.

The Dirt Devil 12s will next visit West Point at 6:30/8 p.m. while the 14s will host Pender at 6/8 p.m. on Thursday, July 9. The Dirt Devil 16/18s will be off until Saturday, July 11 when they compete in the Wahoo Quad while the 2-6 10s return Thursday evening hosting the Norfolk Golden Girls at 6:30/8 p.m.
