Dirt Devil Softball Sunday Results, Invite Ends In Rain Delay

WAYNE – Sunday games were halted due to afternoon showers and wet field conditions during the Dirt Devil Softball Invite.

Games were played at both the Summer Sports Complex and Pete Chapman Softball Complex on the campus of Wayne State College before semifinal and championship games were canceled.

The Dirt Devil 16/18s went 2-1 on Saturday in pool play before having their bracket play semifinal game called off due to weather. The Dirt Devil 16/18s were leading 7-4 in the bottom of the second inning against NEN (Pender) when the game was canceled. The Dirt Devil 16/18s remain 10-2 on the season.

Wakefield was crowned Silver Division Champion (won 3-0 over Creighton Thunder and 5-4 over Yankton Fury Fire) in the 18s category while Fremont Force McGee defeated the West Point-Bluejays, 10-0 on Sunday to advance to the Gold Championship finals but couldn’t play since the Dirt Devil 16/18s vs. NEN game wasn’t completed.

 

The Dirt Devil 14s opened Saturday’s pool play 1-1 before dropping a 9-6 Sunday afternoon game to NEN (Pender) and had their fifth place game against HWY 91 canceled due to weather. The Dirt Devil 14s are now 2-7 on the season.

Yankton Fury Twisters won 8-2 over the Norfolk Kelly’s to advance to the championship bracket but was not played due to the other semifinal game between WDSA (Wahoo) and NEN being canceled.

 

The Dirt Devil 12s went 0-2 in pool play on Saturday before dropping a 10-0 game to the Kelly’s and won 8-6 over Pender 12U to finish their home invitational fifth and now sit 8-10-1 on the season.

In the loss to Kelly’s, Kinnley McGuire, Lillian Johnson and Kamden Dobbins all singled.

McGuire (76 pitches) suffered the loss in three innings allowing 10 runs (six earned) off eight hits while striking out and walking three batters each.

During the fifth place victory, Dobbins singled, drove in a run and scored twice as Lillian Johnson, Alivia Kesting and Reagan Heithold all singled, drove in a run and scored. Olivia Brandow singled and drove in a run; Elizabeth Hix and Kinnley McGuire both accounted for a RBI and run scored as Anna Dutcher scored.

McGuire (76 pitches) picked up the win in five innings allowing six runs (four earned) off four hits while striking out and walking two batters each.

The 12s Division Championship game between Kelly’s and Cavalry (Prague) as well as the third place game of Tri State Titans and Yankton Fury Lancers were canceled due to weather.

 

The Dirt Devil 10s went 2-2 in pool play on Saturday before winning 8-3 over Pender and falling 12-2 to Kelly’s 10U Gray. The Dirt Devil 10s are now 12-10 on the season.

In the victory against Pender, Madison Olson singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Lorelai Sorenson singled, drove in a run and scored as Jessa McMenamin singled and scored twice. Reagan McManigal accounted for a RBI as Hadley Woehler, Nevaeh Hanson and Sadi Fredrickson all scored.

McMenamin (80 pitches) picked up the victory in four innings allowing three earned runs while striking out 10 batters and walking four.

During the loss to the Norfolk Kelly’s, Sorenson singled and scored; Olson accounted for a RBI as Woehler scored.

Sorenson (89) suffered the loss in an inning and two-thirds allowing 12 runs (nine earned) off two hits while striking out five batters and walking 10.

The Dirt Devil 9s went 1-2 in pool play on Saturday before falling 15-3 to Sioux City Futures 10U Navy. The Dirt Devil 9s are now 1-7 on the season.

In Sunday’s loss, Nora Heithold doubled, drove in a run and scored while Harper Hanson singled twice. Lillyah Sievers singled and scored as MaKenna Williamson scored.

Hanson (101 pitches) suffered the loss in an inning allowing 15 runs off six hits while walking 15 batters.

Norfolk Kelly’s Gray made it to the championship game but could not play since the DV Panthers vs. Sioux City Futures Navy semifinal game was canceled due the Sunday afternoon rain.
