WAYNE/WEST POINT – A pair of youth softball teams in Wayne took part in doubleheader outings.
From the Summer Sports Complex, the Dirt Devil 10s hosted the Norfolk Golden Girls while the 12s visited West Point.
During the 10s doubleheader, the Norfolk Golden Girls won 5-1 and 7-4 as the Dirt Devils fell to 2-8.
In the first game, both teams scored a run in the first before Norfolk added another run in the third. The Golden Girls then poured in three more runs during the top of the fifth to hold on for the 5-1 victory.
Courtney Roeber accounted for the lone Dirt Devil run scored as she also walked twice on the night.
Kinnley McGuire suffered the loss in five innings allowing five earned runs off four hits while striking out eight batters and walking three.

From the final game, the Dirt Devil 10s took the early 2-0 lead in the opening inning as Norfolk tallied three runs in the second. Wayne regained the lead in the top of the third with two runs to only see the Golden Girls bounce back with a four-run inning and hold on for the 7-4 win.
Roeber singled twice and scored twice for Wayne. Elizabeth Hix and Alexis Legler both singled and scored as Kaylei McIntosh also singled.
McGuire pitched three innings in the loss allowing three earned runs off five hits while striking out and walking three batters each. Lilly Johnson worked an inning allowing four earned runs while striking out two batters and walking four.

From the 12s games, both teams tied in the opening game 7-7 while the Dirt Devil 12s won 9-5 in the late game to now sit 4-3-1 on the season.
In the tie game, West Point outscored the Dirt Devils 5-3 in the second before Wayne tied the game up in the third thanks to a 4-2 inning. The game ended in a draw, 7-7.
Aubrey Russel doubled, tripled, drove in two runs and scored twice while Justice Olson singled and scored twice for Wayne. Mallory Redden singled and scored; Reagan McGuire singled and drove in a run; Lily Gubbels accounted for two runs scored as Jordyn Gamble and Caylie Hopkins both added a RBI.
Gamble worked all three innings allowing seven runs (six earned) off four hits while striking out three batters and walking seven.

During the night cap, the Dirt Devils scored a run in the opening inning before outscoring West Point 6-2 in the second to lead 7-2. West Point bounced back in the third with a 3-2 inning but Wayne held on for the 9-5 victory.
Reagan McGuire recorded a pair of doubles, a RBI and three runs scored while Olson singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice for Wayne. Russell singled, drove in two runs and scored; Redden added a RBI and run scored; Hopkins and Makenna Mattison both scored as Lily Gubbels, Carli Canham and Gamble all accounted for a RBI.
McGuire picked up the win in three innings allowing five earned runs off five hits while striking out five batters and walking two.

The Dirt Devil 10s will next visit the Norfolk Kelly’s at 6:30/8 p.m. while the 12s will play at Pender at 6:30/8 p.m. both on Tuesday, July 14.
The Dirt Devil 14s (3-7) will compete in the USSSA Class B State Softball Tournament in Seward this weekend. Wayne will face Nebraska Swingers (Lincoln) 14U at 11 a.m. before competing against the Sensations (North Platte) at 2 p.m. Friday.
The Dirt Devil 16/18s will also be in action this weekend during the Wahoo Quadrangular in Wahoo. Wayne will face WDSA (Wahoo) at 10 a.m.; take on Cavalry (Bishop Neumann) at 11:30 a.m. and compete against Wakefield at 1 p.m. all on Saturday, July 11.
