Dirt Devil Day One District Scores

WEST POINT/BLAIR/BENNINGTON – Four of the five Dirt Devil softball programs began district competition to open the weekend.

The 16/18s and the 14s are in West Point; the Dirt Devil 12s are competing in Blair while the Dirt Devil 10s and 9s are in Bennington for district tournament play this weekend.

In West Point for the Dirt Devil 16/18s, the Wayne team suffered a 5-4 loss to Fremont Force – Weyer to now sit 10-3. Next up for the Dirt Devil 16/18s will be Logan View at 2:15 p.m. during an elimination game.

16/18U District. 

Logan Miller doubled, drove in a run and scored while Sammi Gubbels singled. Liberty Titiml added a RBI and run scored; Caitlyn Mostek accounted for a RBI as Delaney Kruse and Kylen Robbins both scored.

Gubbels (91 pitches) suffered the loss in five innings allowing five earned runs off nine hits while striking out three batters and walking three.

The Dirt Devil 14s (3-8) earned a first round bye to Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and will open with Arlington 14U.

14U District. 

Moving to Blair, the Dirt Devil 12s (12-11-1) began district competition by winning 5-4 over Bennington Elite 12U before falling 9-3 to the Blair Diamonds in the winner’s bracket Friday evening. The Dirt Devil 12s will next face Logan View on Saturday at 11 a.m. during an elimination game.

12U District.

During the Friday night victory, Sidney Nelson singled, doubled and drove in a run while Lillian Johnson singled twice, drove in two runs and scored. Reagan Heithold and Anna Dutcher both singled and scored; Elizabeth Hix accounted for a RBI and run scored; Kinnley McGuire added a RBI as Alivia Kesting scored.

McGuire (75 pitches) picked up the complete game win in four innings allowing four runs (two earned) off one hit while striking out and walking three batters each.

In the loss, McGuire doubled, drove in two runs and scored while Johnson doubled and drove in a run. Nelson singled as Sophia Petersen and Hix both scored.

McGuire (88) suffered the loss in five innings allowing nine runs off of five hits while striking out three batters and walking one.

Both the Dirt Devil 10s and 9s opened district action in Bennington. The 10s (13-10) won 16-15 over Quakes 10U – James while the 9s (1-8-1) suffered a 13-1 loss to Fremont Force 10U.

The Dirt Devil 10s will next face Bennington Elite – 9U Denker at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in the winner’s bracket while the Dirt Devil 9s are right back in action on Saturday playing Fort Calhoun Pioneers 10U at 2 p.m. for an elimination game.

10U District. 

In the 10s victory, Madison Olson singled, doubled, tripled, drove in four runs and scored twice; Lorelai Sorenson singled twice, doubled, drove in a run and scored four times; Nevaeh Hanson singled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored while Hadley Dunklau doubled.

Hadley Woehler singled twice, drove in two runs and scored four times; Jessa McMenamin singled and scored four times as Reagan McManigal accounted for a RBI and run scored.

Two pitchers combined for the victory being McMenamin in two innings allowing two earned runs while striking out four batters and walking four while Sorenson worked four innings allowing 11 runs (10 earned) off two hits while striking out seven batters and walking 15.

During the 9s loss, Nora Heithold scored the lone run.

Harper Hanson (66 pitches) suffered the loss allowing 13 runs off seven hits while striking out one batter and walking eight.
