Dirt Devil 18s Win Kelly’s Tournament, 12s Crowned Silver Division Champion

NORFOLK – Dirt Devil softball teams competed in a weekend tournament and brought home some hardware.

From Ta Ha Zouka Park in Norfolk, Dirt Devil 12s and 18s teams competed in the Kelly’s Spring Fling Tournament.

The Dirt Devil 18s picked up a 5-2 victory in the championship game over Creighton while the Dirt Devil 12s won the Silver Division by defeating the Norfolk Golden Girls 12U, 16-0.

In the 18 & Under Division, the Dirt Devils began pool play with a 6-0 win over Creighton Thunder 18U before falling to NCN O’Neill Lightning 18U, 6-4. Wayne then won back-to-back games of 12-1 and 10-0 over SSC Storm 18U to close out pool play at 3-1. In the championship game, the Dirt Devil 18s won 5-2 over Creighton to earn first place at the Kelly’s Tournament.

The Dirt Devil 12s began pool play on Friday with a 21-7 victory over the Norfolk Golden Girls 12U before ending in a 6-6 tie with Creighton on Saturday. Later in the day on Saturday, TSC Thunder defeated the Dirt Devils, 26-4.

On Sunday, the Dirt Devils secured a 9-3 victory over Titan Nation Monroe and again shutout the Norfolk Golden Girls 12U, 16-0 in the finals. The Dirt Devils 12s are now 5-3-1 on the season and will next host Tekamah-Herman Tigers Gold 12U on Thursday, May 26 at 6/7:30 p.m.

 

In game one, Alivia Kesting singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice while Kamden Dobbins singled, drove in three runs and scored for the Dirt Devil 12s.

Anna Dutcher and Lillian Johnson both singled, drove in a run and scored three times; Sidney Nelson singled and scored twice; Reagan Heithold singled, drove in two runs and scored; Sophia Petersen accounted for a RBI and run scored; Elizabeth Hix drove in a run and scored twice; Kinnley McGuire scored three times; Olivia Brandow scored twice and Bryn Tiedtke scored once.

Kamden Dobbins (37 pitches) picked up the win in three innings allowing an earned run while striking out five batters and walking one. Heithold (31) allowed six runs (five earned) and walked six batters.

During game two, Hix singled, drove in two runs and scored twice while Heithold singled, drove in a run and scored for the 12s. Dobbins and Kesting both singled and scored; Dutcher accounted for a RBI and McGuire scored.

Dobbins (84 pitches) worked three innings allowing four runs (three earned) while striking out five batters and walking seven. McGuire (25 pitches) came in for an inning allowing two runs (one earned) off three hits while striking out two batters.

From the Saturday afternoon loss, Hix singled and drove in a run while Dobbins singled and scored for the 12s. Dutcher singled and scored twice; Kesting accounted for a RBI and McGuire scored a run.

McGuire (73 pitches) worked two innings allowing 18 runs (eight earned) off 13 hits while striking out two batters and walking two. Dobbins (34 pitches) worked an inning allowing eight runs (seven earned) off six hits while walking two batters.

During Sunday’s semifinal game, McGuire singled three times, drove in a run and scored twice while Dobbins singled, drove in three runs and scored twice for the 12s. Heithold singled and drove in two runs; Sidney Nelson singled and scored twice; Kesting singled and drove in a run; Anna Dutcher scored twice as Brandow scored.

In the win, Dobbins (43 pitches) worked three innings allowing three runs (two earned) off four hits while striking out five batters and walking one as McGuire (25 pitches) pitched two innings allowing one hit while striking out five batters.

From the championship victory, McGuire singled three times, drove in four runs and scored twice while Dutcher singled three times, drove in two runs and scored three times for the 12s. Kesting singled twice, drove in a run and scored; Brandow singled twice and scored twice; Hix singled, drove in two runs and scored twice; Dobbins singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Heithold singled, drove in a run and scored; Petersen accounted for two RBI and run scored as Nelson scored twice.

McGuire picked up the complete game victory shutout not allowing a hit in three innings striking out nine batters.
