Dirt Devil 18s Open State Tourney 1-1, 12s Win First Round League Tourney Game

BELLEVUE/WEST POINT – Dirt Devil Summer Softball teams both opened state tournament and league tournament competition Friday.

In Bellevue, the 18s split their two games during the Class B USSSA State tournament by falling 10-2 to Select Hastings but shut out Nebraska Stealth-Perez, 12-0. The Dirt Devil 18s are now 14-10-1 on the season.

During the loss to Hastings, the Dirt Devils scored a run in the first before Hastings posted a four-run second and one in the third. Both teams scored a run in the fourth while Hastings added four more runs in the fifth to win 10-2.

Rachel Hobbs singled and scored twice while Hope O’Reilly singled and drove in a run. Kendall Dorey singled.

Hobbs (92 pitches) suffered the loss in four and two-thirds allowing 10 runs (nine earned) off 14 hits while striking out four batters and walking two.

From the victory over Nebraska Stealth, the Dirt Devil 18s posted six-run innings in the first and third to win 12-0.

Rachel Hobbs singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice while Liberty Titiml singled, drove in two runs and scored twice. Kierah Haase singled twice and scored; Hope O’Reilly singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Mikaela McManigal and Erica Brown both singled, drove in a run and scored; Aliah Schulz singled and drove in two runs; Kylen Robbins singled and drove in a run; Logan Miller and Kendall Dorey both singled and scored; Hailey Schroeder singled as Taytum Sweetland scored.

Brown (45 pitches) secured the complete game victory in three innings allowing one hit while striking out three batters and walking two.

From Timmerman Park in West Point, the Dirt Devil 12s began the Logan Valley League Tournament by shutting out DC West, 13-0. The Dirt Devils are now 14-10 on the season and have won their fourth straight.

Jordyn Gamble singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice while Alexis Legler singled twice, drove in a run and scored. Reagan McGuire singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Kassidee Holz and Calie Hopkins both singled, drove in a run and scored; Justice Olson singled twice and scored twice; Anna Dutcher singled and scored twice; Lillian Johnson singled and drove in run as Courtney Roeber and Sidney Nelson both scored.

Kinnley McGuire (43 pitches) secured the complete game, no-hit win in three innings striking out six batters and walking one.

The Dirt Devil 10s also had the start of their league tournament in Tekamah postponed due to rain Friday night. The 8-10-3 team will now open league action at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
