Dirt Devil 16/18s Split At Yankton Fury

YANKTON, SD – The Dirt Devil 16/18 softball team traveled up a state to the north for a weekend doubleheader.

The combined Wayne softball team took on the Yankton Fury in Yankton, South Dakota Saturday.

Yankton won the opening game 6-0 before the Dirt Devil 16/18s won game two, 4-2. The 16/18s are now 4-4 on the season.

In the opening game, Yankton scored two runs in each of the first, third and fifth innings to win 6-0.

Aliah Schultz recorded the lone single of the game. Rachel Hobbs suffered the loss in five innings allowing six runs (four earned) off eight hits while striking out four batters and walking four.

From game two, Wayne struck first with a run in the first before scoring three more in the third to lead 4-0. Yankton then scored two runs in the fifth but fell 4-2.

Kendall Dorey singled, doubled and scored a run while Hobbs singled and drove in two runs. Nikki Fertig and Logan Miller both singled; Kayla Fleming singled and scored twice as Mikaela McManigal accounted for a RBI. Taytum Sweetland scored and added a RBI.

Dorey picked up the win in an inning and a third allowing two hits while striking out three batters. Hobbs worked three and two-thirds allowing two runs off one hit while striking out one batter and walking two.

The Dirt Devil 16/18s will next visit West Point on Tuesday, June 30 at 6:30/8 p.m.
