Dirt Devil 16/18s Shutout West Point During Home Doubleheader, Kelly’s Take Two From Dirt Devil 12s

WAYNE – A pair of Dirt Devil softball teams were in action on their home diamond ahead of a weekend invite.

From the Wayne Summer Sports Complex, the Dirt Devil 16/18s welcomed in West Point while the Dirt Devil 12s hosted the Norfolk Kelly’s on Tuesday.

The Dirt Devil 16/18s secured back-to-back wins of 12-0 and 13-0 as the Kelly’s topped the Dirt Devil 12s by scores of 13-0 and 13-1. The 16/18s are now 8-1 on the season while the Dirt Devil 12s fell to 6-6-1 on the season.

Both the Dirt Devil 16/18s and 12s will join the 9s, 10s and 14s during the Dirt Devil Invite on Saturday and Sunday, June 4 – 5.

In the opening game for the Dirt Devil 16/18s, Delaney Kruse singled twice and scored twice; Logan Miller doubled, drove in a run and scored while Taytem Ellis doubled and drove in a run.

Kierah Haase singled and scored twice; Brooklyn Kruse and Jersi Jensen singled, drove in a run and scored; Liberty Titiml and Caitlyn Mostek both singled and scored; Kylen Robbins accounted for a RBI and run scored as Hailey Schroeder and Sammi Gubbels both scored.

Gubbels (61 pitches) picked up the complete game shutout no-hitter victory in three innings striking out seven batters and walking three.

During the second contest, Brooklyn Kruse tripled, drove in two runs and scored twice as Titiml singled, drove in a run and scored twice.

Haase singled and scored twice; Robbins singled and drove in a run; Delaney Kruse accounted for two RBI and two runs scored; Schroeder added a RBI and run scored as single runs came from Ellis, Jensen, Gubbels and Mostek.

Gubbels (48 pitches) picked up the complete game shutout victory in three innings allowing one hit while striking out five batters and walking one.

From the first game for the Dirt Devil 12s, Kinnley McGuire recorded the lone hit being a single.

McGuire (102 pitches) suffered the loss in four innings allowing 13 runs (four earned) off seven hits while striking out three batters and walking four.

In the final outing for the 12s, Kamden Dobbins singled and drove in a run as McGuire singled and scored. Elizabeth Hix also singled.

Dobbins (68 pitches) worked two innings allowing 10 runs (two earned) off seven hits while walking three batters. Reagan Heithold (21 pitches) didn’t record an out allowing three runs while striking out one batter and walking three.
