WAHOO – After sweeping Ponca early last week, the Dirt Devil 16/18s competed in the Wahoo Quadrangular Saturday.
Wayne opened with a 4-3 loss to the host Wahoo before suffering a 6-2 defeat to Calvary (Bishop Neumann) and closing out Saturday with a 7-1 victory over Wakefield. The Dirt Devil 16/18s are now 9-6 on the season.
In the loss to Wahoo, the Dirt Devil 16/18s led 2-1 after the first and added one more run in the fourth. Wahoo tied the game up in the fifth with two runs and got the last at bat in the home half of the seventh to win 4-3.
Rachel Hobbs singled, doubled and scored while Kendall Dorey doubled for Wayne. Faith Indra singled three times, drove in two runs and scored; Logan Miller singled and drove in a run as Hailey Schroeder singled and scored.
Hobbs suffered the loss in an inning and a third allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out one batter and walking one. Dorey worked the opening five innings allowing three runs (two earned) off two hits while striking out eight batters and walking one.

During the loss to Bishop Neumann, Calvary led 2-0 after the first. Following a pair of scoreless innings, Wayne got on the board with a 2-1 fourth inning only to see Bishop Neumann score three more runs in the fifth to hold on for the 6-2 victory.
Hobbs singled three times and scored while Miller singled and drove in two runs for Wayne. Mikaela McManigal singled as Indra scored.
Hobbs suffered the loss in five innings allowing six runs (one earned) off seven hits while striking out three batters and walking one.

From the lone victory over the weekend, both Wayne and Wakefield scored a run in the first before the Dirt Devil 16/18s added two runs in the second, one in the third and three more in the fourth to win 7-1.
Hobbs singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice while Nikki Fertig singled, drove in two runs and scored for Wayne. Hope O’Reilly singled, drove in a run and scored; Taytum Sweetland singled and scored; Dorey singled; Miller added a RBI as Indra and McManigal both scored.
Hobbs picked up the win in two innings allowing one run off two hits while striking out three batters and walking two. Dorey worked three innings of scoreless softball striking out six batters.
