Dirt Devil 16/18s Finish Third At Districts; 14s, 10s Also Punch Ticket To State

WEST POINT/BLAIR/BENNINGTON – All five Dirt Devil softball programs were busy over the weekend in district action.

The 16/18s and the 14s were in West Point; the Dirt Devil 12s were competing in Blair while the Dirt Devil 10s and 9s were in Bennington for district tournament play this weekend.

With a third place finish at districts, the Dirt Devil 16/18s have punched their ticket to state along with the Dirt Devil 14s and 10s also earning a trip to state in Hastings. Brackets will be posted once released as the 10s state tournament will be July 1 – 3 followed by state tournament games for the 14s and 18s July 8 – 10.

16/18U District. 

Following a one-run loss on Friday, the Dirt Devil 16/18s fought off four elimination games and fell one game short of the finals to place third overall. The Dirt Devil 16/18s are now 14-4 on the season.

In a 17-0 shutout victory over Logan View, Logan Miller singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice while Delaney Kruse tripled, drove in three runs and scored twice.

Taytem Ellis singled twice, drove in two runs and scored three times; Kierah Haase singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice; Sammi Gubbels singled and drove in two runs; Jersi Jensen and Caitlyn Mostek both accounted for two RBI and two runs scored; Liberty Titiml added a RBI and run scored; Hailey Schroeder scored twice as Kylen Robbins scored.

Gubbels (47 pitches) picked up the win in two and two-thirds of scoreless action allowing one hit while striking out four batters.

During a 12-3 win against Highway 91, Delaney Kruse doubled twice, tripled, drove in three runs and scored; Ellis singled, doubled, tripled, drove in two runs and scored three times; Haase singled, doubled, drove in three runs and scored twice; Miller singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored while Schroeder doubled, drove in a run and scored twice.

Titiml singled twice and drove in a run; Robbins scored twice as Jensen scored.

Gubbels (83) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing three runs off five hits while striking out seven batters and walking one.

From a 17-1 victory over Nebraska Venom Dunn 16U, Haase singled three times, doubled, drove in four runs and scored four times; Schroeder doubled, drove in a run and scored four times while Ellis singled four times, drove in two runs and scored three times.

Delaney Kruse singled three times, drove in three runs and scored twice; Jensen singled, drove in two runs and scored; Gubbels singled, drove in a run and scored; Titiml singled and drove in a run as Miller and Mostek both scored.

Gubbels (48) picked up the complete game victory in four innings allowing one run off one hit while striking out four batters.

In a 6-5 win against WDSA (Wahoo), Ellis tripled, drove in a run and scored; Miller singled three times and scored twice while Mostek singled twice, drove in a run and scored.

Schroeder singled and drove in two runs; Gubbels and Delaney Kruse both singled and drove in a run; Haase singled as Titiml scored twice.

Gubbels (108) picked up the compete game victory in eight innings allowing five runs (three earned) off seven hits while striking out five batters and walking one.

During a 4-0 loss to Fremont Force 16U (lost 5-4 to Fremont Force 16U on Friday), Haase, Delaney Kruse and Miller all singled.

Gubbels (89) suffered the loss in six innings allowing four runs (three earned) off seven hits while striking out four batters and walking two. Robbins (15) worked an inning striking out one batter.

The Dirt Devil 14s received a Friday night bye into Saturday and went 1-2 to now sit 4-10 overall.

14U District. 

During the opening 9-4 victory over Arlington, Justice Olson doubled and scored twice while Reagan McGuire doubled and scored.

Lily Gubbels singled, drove in two runs and scored; Kaylei McIntosh, Kassidee Holz and Alexis Legler all accounted for a RBI and run scored; Makenna Mattison added a RBI as single runs came from Jordyn Gamble and Serenity Heil.

Gamble (85 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing four runs (one earned) off three hits while striking out 11 batters and walking one.

From the 14-11 loss to Nebraska Edge, McGuire singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored while Gamble tripled, drove in a run and scored twice.

Mattison singled twice and drove in four runs; Gubbels singled, drove in a run and scored; Heil, Olson and Holz all scored twice; Legler accounted for a RBI as McIntosh scored.

Combining for the loss were McGuire (48) worked an inning allowing nine runs (seven earned) off two hits while walking five batters as Gamble (57) pitched three innings allowing five runs (two earned) off three hits while striking out four batters and walking two.

In the 9-4 loss to West Point, McGuire recorded the lone single and scored while Gubbels accounted for two RBI and one run scored. Legler and Holz both scored.

Gamble (99) suffered the loss in four innings allowing nine runs (three earned) off six hits while striking out seven batters and walking six.

After going 1-1 on Friday, the Dirt Devil 12s split another pair of games on Saturday in district action. The Dirt Devil 12s are now 13-12-1.

12U District.

The Dirt Devi 12s first fought off an elimination game on Saturday by winning 17-8 over Logan View before falling 5-1 to Yutan 12U.

In the win, Olivia Brandow singled, drove in two runs and scored; Kinnley McGuire singled, drove in a run and scored twice while Alivia Kesting singled, drove in a run and scored twice. Elizabeth Hix accounted for a RBI and two runs scored; Anna Dutcher scored three times; Sophia Petersen, Kamden Dobbins and Reagan Heithold all scored twice as Lillian Johnson scored once.

Dobbins (67 pitches) picked up the win in three innings allowing eight runs (five earned) off four hits while striking out five batters and walking three. McGuire also saw action in the circle.

Following a Friday night victory for the Dirt Devil 10s, Wayne split their Saturday games before dropping their lone Sunday outing by a run to go 2-2 at districts and now sit 14-12 overall.

10U District. 

In the 12-6 win over Bennington Elite – 9U Denker, Lorelai Sorenson singled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice while Jessa McMenamin singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice.

Dunklau singled, drove in two runs and scored; Reagan McManigal singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Hadley Woehler singled, drove in a run and scored; Madison Olson and Nevaeh Hanson both singled and scored as Sadi Fredrickson and Kennedy Rubendall both scored.

McMenamin (95 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in four innings allowing six runs (five earned) off three hits while striking out 10 batters and walking seven.

From the 7-6 loss to Nebraska Fremont Force 10U – Barton, Woehler singled twice, drove in a run and scored while Sorenson singled and drove in three runs.

McMenamin singled and scored twice; McManigal singled and drove in a run as Olson, Fredrickson and Avery Gubbels all scored.

Sorenson (79) suffered the loss in two and two-thirds allowing seven runs (five earned) off three hits while striking out six batters and walking six.

During the 5-4 loss to Pender on Sunday, single runs came from McMenamin, Woehler, Sorenson and Olson.

Sorenson (99) suffered the loss in four innings allowing five earned runs off one hit while striking out nine batters and walking eight.

After opening district competition with a Friday night loss, the Dirt Devil 9s were eliminated Saturday afternoon by the score of 11-10 against Fort Calhoun. The Dirt Devil 9s are now 1-9-1 on the season.

In the loss, Harper Hanson singled and scored twice while Zoe Myer and Winora Dorcey both scored twice. Single runs came from Nora Heithold, Kiley Dutcher, Izzy Ruwe and MaKenna Williamson.

Williamson (74 pitches) suffered the loss allowing 11 runs (10 earned) off four hits while striking out three batters and walking six.
