VERMILLION, SD – The Wayne Dirt Devil 16/18 & Under softball team was in action over the weekend during the Stars & Stripes Vermillion Tourney.
Wayne took part in pool play Saturday and suffered losses to Fusion Heat (10-3) and Vermillion Blast (6-1) before dropping a single elimination game to the Vermillion Flames on Sunday (4-0). The Wayne 16/18s are now 3-3 on the season.
In the game one loss to Fusion Heat, Sidney Biggerstaff paced Wayne at the plate with a single and double. Maysn Dorey, Kennedy Maly and Jamie Gamble all singled.
Courtney Bokemper allowed seven hits while walking eight batters and striking out one.
During the game two loss to the Vermillion Blast, Maly produced two singles as Jenna Trenhaile added a triple. Josie Thompson, Gamble and Biggerstaff all singled.
Bokemper allowed eight hits while walking six batters and striking out another five.
From the Sunday loss to the Vermillion Flames, Maly recorded a pair of singles. Trenhaile, Dorey and Biggerstaff all singled.
Bokemper allowed five hits while walking four batters and striking out two.
After the three younger Dirt Devil softball teams had the weekend off, they’ll be in action tonight. The 10s will host the Kelly’s at 6 p.m. from the Summer Sports Complex as will the 14s with the Golden Girls coming to town at 6/7:30 p.m. The Dirt Devil 12s will visit Highway 91 at 6:30 p.m.
Make plans to visit the Summer Sports Complex this weekend, Friday, June 1 – Sunday, June 3 during the Dirt Devil Invitational. There’ll be five teams in the 10 & Under Division; six in the 12s; eight in the 14s; six in the 16s and eight in the 18s category.
