HASTINGS – Both of the older Dirt Devil softball programs closed out their state tournament run over the weekend.

From the Nebraska USA Softball Complex in Hastings, the Dirt Devil 16/18s as well as the Dirt Devil 14s competed in their respective Class C brackets.

The Dirt Devil 16/18s opened with back-to-back victories on Friday by winning 9-6 over Seward Illusion 18U and 5-4 against the Creighton Thunder.

The Dirt Devil 16/18s continued into Saturday with a 4-2 victory in eight innings against the Polk County Slammers before falling Sunday morning to the Oakland Rockets, 4-3. The Polk County Slammers then eliminated the Dirt Devil 16/18s, 5-4 on Sunday.

In the win over the Polk County Slammers, Taytem Ellis recorded a homerun, single and three total RBI while Sammi Gubbels doubled. Hailey Schroeder singled and drove in a run, Delaney Kruse singled and scored while Caitlyn Mostek scored.

Gubbels (110) picked up the complete game victory in eight innings allowing two runs (one earned) off six hits while striking out and walking two batters each.

During the loss against the Oakland Rockets, Ellis singled twice, tripled and scored. Jersi Jensen, Mostek and Kruse all singled as Liberty Titiml and Kierah Haase both scored.

Gubbels (85) suffered the loss in seven innings allowing four runs (two earned) off eight hits while striking out two batters.

From the elimination game with the Polk County Slammers, Logan Miller doubled and drove in two runs while Taytum Sweetland singled and drove in a run. Kruse and Jensen both singled and scored; Ellis singled as Titiml and Haase both scored.

Gubbels (112) suffered the loss in six innings allowing five runs (four earned) off 10 hits while striking out seven batters and walking one.

The Dirt Devil 16/18s finished their season at 18-15.

 

The Dirt Devil 14s started with a Friday afternoon loss of 12-2 against SWAT before winning 9-2 over the Verdigre Stingers later that evening.

Moving into Saturday, the Dirt Devil 14s won 8-3 over Dannebrog Sentinels before suffering an 8-2 loss against Auburn Adrenaline later in the day on Saturday.

In the victory over Dannebrog Sentinels, Lily Gubbels singled, doubled and scored twice; Reagan McGuire doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice; Alexis Legler singled twice, drove in a run and scored as Justice Olson singled twice and scored.

Jordyn Gamble singled and drove in a run; Kayleigh Graybeal singled; Kassidee Holz accounted for a RBI and run scored; Kaylei McIntosh added a RBI as Gracelynn Daniels scored.

Gamble (37) picked up the victory in three innings allowing one run off one hit while striking out and walking one batter each. McGuire (52) worked three innings allowing two runs off two hits while striking out two batters and walking one.

From the loss to Auburn Adrenaline, McGuire singled, doubled and scored while Gamble singled twice and drove in two runs.

McIntosh singled and scored as Olson and Legler both singled.

McGuire (50) suffered the loss in an inning and two-thirds allowing five runs (two earned) off three hits while striking out one batter and walking three. Gamble (64) worked three and a third allowing three earned runs off four hits while striking out five batters and walking two.
